Erik Lamela is an Argentine International with a talent for dribbling, and plays as an attacking midfielder for Tottenham Hotspur. Lamela became a Spur in August 2013 when he joined from AS Roma.
Staring his professional career in his home country of Argentina, Lamela made 40 appearances for River Plate before moving to AS Roma in 2011. Erik found success with the Italian outfit, netting a total of 21 goals in 67 appearances for the club.
When Erik Lamela made the move to Tottenham Hotspur, his 2013-14 campaign was abruptly ended in December when the Argentine suffered a back injury that ruled him out until the following season. It was during that following season when he scored his famous, and most memorable, ‘rabona’ goal in the Europa League against Asteras Tripolis. It was the 2015-16 campaign when Lamela became a frequent starter in the Spurs first team, scoring 11 goal in 44 appearances in all competitions.
Again, injury issues meant that Lamela could only feature 14 times for Spurs in the 2016-17 campaign, but he returned to the first team in November 2017 after a spell in the U23 squad.
Internationally, Erik Lamela represented Argentina four times in the U20 squad before making his senior debut in May 2011. He was a central figure in the Argentina squad for both the 2015 and 2016 Copa America tournaments.
