Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – Player Profile
Standing at 6ft 2in, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg primarily plays as a midfielder. He joined Tottenham Hotspur from Southampton for a reported fee of £15m in August 2020.
His youth career began with BK Skjold in his native Denmark in 2003, before he left for KB (Kjøbenhavns Boldklub) in 2007. After joining Copenhagen, he eventually he found himself at Danish giants Brondby IF in 2009, and after impressing and being named the Danish Under-17 player of the year in 2011, he was signed by German Champions Bayern Munich in 2012.
Hojbjerg made his debut for Bayern as a substitute in a Bundesliga match against FC Nurnberg on 13th April 2013. This made him the youngest player to ever play in a first team match for Bayern in the top flight.
Over the course of the 2013/14 campaign, Hojbjerg made 23 appearances for Bayern’s First Team in all competitions. He scored 4 goals whilst also providing 2 assists. Bayern won the league in emphatic fashion, finishing on 90 points, 19 ahead of Borussia Dortmund in 2nd place.
They went on to complete the double, by also winning the DFB Pokal (German Domestic Cup Competition), beating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the final.
Bayern’s reserve team was very successful during that season, as they also won the Regionalliga (German Fourth Tier) with 79 points, but this was a closer fought battle with only 4 points separating themselves and second placed Illertissen.
After making 13 appearances in the first half of the 2014/15 season, he joined fellow Bundesliga outfit FC Augsburg on Wednesday 7th January 2015. He made 16 appearances for Markus Weinzierl’s team, scoring 2 goals and providing 3 assists for teammates finishing in 5th, qualifying for European Football.
Following this successful loan spell, he then joined another Bundesliga club on loan, Schalke, this time for the entirety of the 2015/16 season. Hojbjerg made 30 appearances for Die Königsblauen (The Royal Blues) in which he helped the German giants to a 5th place finish and European qualification.
At the conclusion of his second successive loan spell away from Bayern Munich, he left the German Champions permanently in the summer transfer window in 2016 joining Southampton for a reported fee of €15m (£13.3m).
He was an immediate regular starter for The Saints, making 37 appearances in all competitions for the club in the 2016/17 season. Southampton went on to finish 8th that season with 46 points.
In his time on the South Coast, he made 134 appearances for the club, scoring 5 goals whilst also providing 6 assists for his teammates.
After impressing with Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur signed the Denmark international for a reported fee of £15m in August 2020.
During the 2020/21 season, Hojbjerg made 53 Appearances in all competitions, scoring 2 goals and providing 5 assists for teammates. They finished in 7th place that season, with the midfielder playing every game.
He also scored 2 goals and got 2 assists in the 36 Premier League games that he played the following season, with the Lilywhites finishing fourth on 71 points, qualifying for European Football and finishing ahead of arch North London Rivals Arsenal (5th).
To date, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has made 130 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing 14 assists to date.
