Transfers: Min-hyuk Yang to sign for Spurs?

The 18 year old forward looks set to sign for the Lilywhites from South Korea’s Gangwon FC imminently.

Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs look set to continue to be active in the 2024 Summer Transfer Window ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League season, where they hope to seal a return to the UEFA Champions League via a top four finish. They could of course qualify for European Football’s Premier Club Competition by winning the UEFA Europa League next season.

Spurs’ 2024 summer recruits as of the time of writing include Timo Werner’s loan move with an option to buy from German Bundesliga Club RB Leipzig, whilst two very promising young players in the form of Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray have signed for the club from Djurgårdens IF and Leeds United respectively.

After completing these signings, Tottenham Hotspur has been linked with a plethora of players from across the continent of Europe and the world. One such player is yet another promising young player in the form of Gangwon FC’s 18 year old forward Min-hyuk Yang.

According to reports, he is set to sign for Spurs imminently for a rumoured fee of just €4 million (£3.37 million), with the young forward set to join in at the start of the 2025 January Transfer Window. He will of course join his fellow South Korean forward Son Heung-Min at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Min-hyuk Yang currently plays his football for Gangwon FC, who play in the K League 1, the top tier of South Korean Football. Seasons in this league run each calendar year from March to October, and the 2024 season is a first in senior football for him.

As of the time of writing, the young forward has played in all 24 matches for his club in the league this season. Throughout these games he has impressed, scoring 7 goals whilst getting a total of 3 assists to boot. This means he has a great record of 10 goal contributions to date.

When he scored his first ever senior goal for the club in a 4 – 2 away defeat against Gwangju FC back on 10th March 2024, he officially became the youngest scorer in the K League since 2013.

Min-hyuk Yang had spent 2022 and 2023 with the Gangwon FC Under 18s side, playing two seasons in the South Korean K League Under 18 Championship.

Min-hyuk Yang is also a South Korea Youth International – he has represented his country at Under 16 level and Under 17 level. With the Under 16 side, he got a goal in 5 appearances, whilst he has a goal in 18 appearances for the Under 17 team.

This signing most certainly continues a trend in this transfer window so far for Spurs, with no player joining the club so far exceeding the age of 18, except for 28 year old Timo Werner who returned to the club on loan with an option to buy from RB Leipzig.

If Min-hyuk Yang does indeed decide to join Tottenham, he will become the third South Korean player to ever play for Spurs after Lee Young-pyo (2005 – 2008), and of course club legend Son Heung-Min (2015 – Present Day).

The signing of this very promising young player is sure to excite Spurs fans, who will hope that Min-hyuk Yang can become one of their best players for years to come once he joins in January 2025.
