Dress Code

Spurs last played Brentford in April 2022 at the GTech Community Stadium.
Tottenham were in 4th place on 57 points after 32 matches. They were in a tense battle with Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City for European Football. With a win, they would get within 2 points of the Blues in 3rd.
Antonio Conte’s Lilywhites had won four of their last five games. This run included very impressive wins over Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Brighton.
Meanwhile, Thomas Frank’s Bees were sat in 12th place with 39 points after 33 matches and they had a realistic aim of achieving a top half finish in their first top flight season since 1947.
Bryan Mbeumo had two efforts on goal in quick succession, with the latter being blocked by the Spurs defence (5’).
The first chance for Spurs came when England international Harry Kane saw his powerful shot on goal fly just wide of the far post (39’).
Former Spurs midfielder Christian Eriksen had a chance, only for Hugo Lloris to produce a spectacular save when the ball looked to be heading into the bottom left corner (66’).
Stoppage time in the second half saw mayhem in both boxes. Firstly, Ivan Toney’s header hit the post, then Mbeumo had another effort on goal, but the ball flew just wide of the near post (90+1’).
Finally, in what was Spurs’ last chance to score, Harry Kane saw his close range effort go just wide of the post (90+2’).
Both teams created a great deal, but neither of them were clinical in front of goal. Despite having 9 shots, the Lilywhites failed to register a single one of them on target, compared to just 2 of the 15 shots being on target for Brentford.
Possession was even, with Spurs having more of the ball with 56% compared to 44% for their opponents.
Following this match, Tottenham dropped to 5th after 33 games, but they were still in the hunt for European Football. As for Brentford, they remained in 12th place on 40 points.

Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford will meet once again in the Premier League in May 2023 at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
At the time of writing, Antonio Conte’s team are currently in 4th place after 15 games with 29 points to their tally. Only Arsenal, Manchester City and Newcastle United are above them in the Premier League.
Thomas Frank’s Brentford find themselves in 10th place with 19 points after 15 matches.
Tottenham had a busy summer transfer window. Richarlison and Cristian Romero both signed for £50m from Everton and Atalanta respectively. Yves Bissouma signed from Brighton, Ivan Perisic joined on a free transfer from Inter Milan whilst Destiny Udogie and Djed Spence both joined from Udinese and Middlesbrough respectively.
Experienced goalkeeper Fraser Forster signed on a free transfer from Southampton whilst France international Clement Llenglet joined on loan from Spanish giants FC Barcelona.
Brentford were also active in the transfer market, signing a total of 5 players. Keane Lewis-Potter joined from Hull City for £16.4m, with Scottish full back Aaron Hickey signing from Italian club Bologna for a reported £14m.
Mikkel Damsgaard signed from Italian side Sampdoria, whilst Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha joined on a free transfer.
They have only played each other twice in the Premier League, with Tottenham winning their first meeting 2-0 in December 2021. They then played out a 0-0 draw in their second match in April 2022.
The Bees have shown good form in front of goal this season with 23 goals in their 15 matches to date. This is more than Manchester United (20) and Chelsea (17).
The Lilywhites have been even better, scoring 31 goals in the same number of matches which makes them the third most prolific team in the Premier League.
Harry Kane is the top goal scorer for Antonio Conte’s team on 12 with Rodrigo Bentancur second with 4.
As for Brentford, their top scorer is Ivan Toney who has found the net 10 times. Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa are joint second with 3 goals each.
