Dominic Solanke to sign for Spurs?
The 26 year old has been linked with a move to Tottenham with the North London side targeting the forward to add to their attacking prowess.
Clubs up and down the country and across the continent of Europe are all busy making changes to their squads as they all look to improve and give themselves the best chance to reach their objectives for the upcoming 2024/25 season, and Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs are most certainly no different.
Tottenham are looking to add further numbers to their squad as they look to secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League come the end of the campaign. As of the time of writing, the North London Club has signed the following players: Timo Werner (From RB Leipzig, loan with option to buy), Lucas Bergvall (From Djurgardens, £8.5 million), Archie Gray (From Leeds United, £30 million) and finally Yang Min-hyeok (From Gangwon FC, £3.5 million). Yang Min-hyeok goes back out on loan to Gangwon FC, before then returning to Spurs in January 2025.
A player who has been very recently linked with a move to Tottenham is Bournemouth forward Dominic Solanke. Last season, he played in all 38 of the Cherries’ Premier League matches, and he scored no less than 19 goals, which was the joint fourth best record alongside Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins. Only Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, and Erling Haaland were ahead of Solanke with 21, 22 and 27 goals respectively.
Rewind to 2004, which was when Solanke’s career began with him joining Chelsea at the age of just seven. By the 2013/14 season, the forward was a regular starter for the West London club’s Under 18s team, scoring 20 goals in only 25 appearances in the league that year. He also got 2 in the Blues’ 7 – 6 aggregate win in the FA Youth Cup Final on 6th May 2014.
Shortly after that came the time he would sign his first ever professional contract with the club in September 2014. He then went on to make his first team debut in an emphatic 6 – 0 victory in the UEFA Champions League as a substitute for Brazilian creative midfielder Oscar in the 73rd minute. He therefore became the youngest player to have ever played for the club in this highly prestigious competition.
Dominic Solanke would then go on to spend the entirety of the 2015/16 season with Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem of the Dutch Top Flight, the Eredivisie. In his 25 appearances for their first team, the English forward was able to find the back of the net a total of 7 times with an assist to boot as well.
Liverpool then came calling, signing Solanke on 30th May 2017 on for £3 million, a fee set by a tribunal following his move to the Reds upon the expiry of his contract with Chelsea. He made his debut for the club in a 2 – 1 win against German Bundesliga Hoffenheim in the UEFA Champions League, coming on as a substitute for Roberto Firmino.
His first goal for the club came on 13th May 2018 in an emphatic 4 = 0 Premier League victory at Anfield against Brighton.
However, Solanke was only handed 27 Senior appearances for Liverpool throughout his time with the club between 2017 and 2019.
Dominic Solanke left the club to join AFC Bournemouth for a rumoured fee of £19 million on 4th January 2019, making his debut on 2nd February in a 2 – 0 defeat against Cardiff City at the Bluebirds’ Cardiff City Stadium. He scored 3 goals in his 32 appearances for the South Coast Club that season (2019/20), as they got relegated down to the EFL Championship after earning 34 points in what was an 18th place finish.
It was in the English Second Tier that the forward had his first truly outstanding season in front of goal in his senior career. Solanke scored no less than 15 goals, whilst getting a total of no less than 11 assists in his 40 appearances for the Cherries in the 2020/21 season in order to earn them a 6th place finish with a total of 77 points, but they did not get promoted via the play-offs.
The 2019/20 EFL Championship season was a simply incredible one for both AFC Bournemouth and Dominic Solanke himself. In his ever-present 46 appearances in that campaign, Solanke got himself an amazing total of no less than 29 goals together with 7 assists to help fire his side to promotion back to the Premier League at the second time of asking, finishing in 2ndplace with 88 points – just two behind that year’s Champions, Fulham.
It was a 15th place finish for Bournemouth upon their return to the Premier League in the 2020/21 season. Over the course of that particular campaign, the forward got a tally of 6 goals whilst getting a further 7 assists in his 33 top flight appearances.
Then came his aforementioned 19 goal season in the 2023/24 Premier League season, which has seen him linked with some of English Football’s biggest clubs, including Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs.
If Dominic Solanke was to sign for Tottenham Hotspur, it would be an exciting addition for the club and its fans as they look to add more goals to their team as they seek a spot in the UEFA Champions League, European Football’s most prestigious club cup competition, in the 2024/25 season.
