Pedro Porro – Player Profile
Pedro Porro, standing at 5ft 8in, is a Spanish international who primarily plays as a right back, but he is also able to play further up the pitch as a right midfielder. Porro signed for Tottenham on loan with an obligation to buy from Portuguese giants Sporting Clube de Portugal on Tuesday 31st January 2023.
He began his career in his native Spain, spending his early career at Gimnastico Don Benito, who he represented from 2008 until his departure in 2015. He was then signed by current La Liga (Spanish top flight) club Rayo Vallecano in 2015 before joining fellow Spanish side Girona in 2017.
Porro made his maiden senior appearance when he came on as a late substitute for Girona in a 1-1 draw against Levante in the Round of 32 of the 2017/18 Copa Del Rey (Spanish Cup) on 28th November 2017.
Following his first appearance for the senior team, he went on to make several appearances for Peralda making 5 appearances in the 2017/18 season, scoring three goals.
By the conclusion of the 2017/18 season, Girona finished in a very respectable 10th place with 51 points, finding themselves in mid table. As for Peralda, they finished in 9th place in the third tier of Spanish football.
Pedro Porro became a regular starter for Girona in the 2018/19 season, making 34 appearances in all competitions. He contributed a goal and 4 assists in a season that saw the club get relegated to the second tier, finishing in 18th place with 37 points.
He was impressive in this season despite relegation, then making the move to Manchester City for a reported €10m (£8.8m) in August 2019. He failed to make a senior appearance for the Citizens, and was sent out on two loan spells with Real Valladolid and Sporting Clube de Portugal.
His first loan spell was with Real Valladolid where he spent the duration of the 2019/20 season. In all competitions, Porro made 15 appearances with no goals or assists. Porro and Valladolid finished in a respectable 13th place in LaLiga, with 42 points.
After Valladolid decided against taking the option to buy the Spaniard, Sporting signed the right back on a two year loan with an option to buy. In his first season with the club (2020/21), he made 37 appearances in total with four goals and 2 assists to his name. The club ended up winning the Primeira Liga title on 85 points, five ahead of rivals Porto.
Following an impressive second season (2021/22), scoring 5 goals and providing 7 assists, Sporting decided to sign Porro permanently for a reported fee of £7.5m in May 2022. The club finished in 2nd place behind Porto.
Pedro joined Antonio Conte’s Spurs on 31st January 2023 with an obligation to buy for a reported £39m.
