Transfers: Patrick Dorgu to sign for Spurs?
Tottenham look to be seeking competition for Destiny Udogie, and rumours suggest that the club are taking a look at the defender from Lecce.
In his second season in charge as Spurs Head Coach, Ange Postecoglou is looking to guide Tottenham to a long awaited return to the UEFA Champions League either via a top four finish or by winning the UEFA Europa League. As a result, the Australian is looking to strengthen his squad for the 2024/25 season, and the Lilywhites look set to have an active window.
To date, Tottenham Hotspur has completed three signings as of the time of writing. German international forward Timo Werner has re-joined on loan with an option to buy, whilst Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray have signed for the North London club from Djurgardens and EFL Championship club Leeds United.
Several other players have been linked with the club, and this includes Lecce’s 19 year old Danish left back Patrick Dorgu, who has just finished a very promising season in Serie A with the Italian club.
Dorgu is a versatile player. He predominantly plays his football as a left back, having played there 65 times so far, as of the time of writing. He has though played as a left midfielder, left winger, right winger, right midfielder, and right back at times.
Throughout the 2023/24 season, Dorgu made 34 appearances in all competitions, including 32 in the Italian top flight in what was his first ever full season in senior football. He scored twice in the league, and this combined with his overall superb performances helped his club Lecce to a 14th place finish, whilst attracting interest from top clubs like Spurs.
Several reports suggest that Dorgu is valued at €30 million (£25 million), so this is the figure that Spurs would have to meet in order to get their man.
Patrick Dorgu began his career in his native Denmark in the youth academy of Husum Boldklub, before moving on to Nordsjaelland. It was in 2022 that he decided to leave the country for Italy, where he would sign with his current club Lecce.
He went on to make his senior debut for I Giallorossi (The Yellow and Reds) in a Coppa Italia match against Como on 13th August 2023, and it was a game which Lecce won 1 – 0 thanks to a goal from Swedish forward Pontus Almqvist at the midway point of the first half (27’).
Patrick Dorgu has already shown great form in what was just his first season of senior football, and it is clear that the Denmark youth international has significant potential. Ange Postecoglou will be looking to bring him to Spurs to help him showcase his ability and to realise his potential.
Tottenham Hotspur fans will be eagerly awaiting any potential progress in a move for Dorgu over the days and weeks to come.
Spurs fans are excited for any further potential additions to their squad, as Spurs look to seal a return to the highly prestigious UEFA Champions League come the end of the 2024/25 season.
