The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has now replaced their old stadium ‘White Hart Lane’, which they played at for 118 years!
As the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was quite outdated, the club looked for different ways to modernise the stadium and improve the location for the players and the fans. However, they were unsure whether they should make a whole new stadium or refurbish an existing one, and they went ahead with renovating an existing one.
During the 2018/19 season, the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was opened and built with the ultimate matchday experience, including world-class facilities, state of the art design, and excellent acoustics. Thus, ensuring one of the best atmospheres of any club ground in Europe when you purchase your Spurs tickets.

Spurs v AZ Alkmaar Previous Fixture
Spurs are set to take on Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar in the League Phase of the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Head Coach Ange Postecoglou will be looking to lead the hosts to what would be a crucial victory for the North London Club against their Dutch counterparts.
It is likely to come as little surprise that Tottenham Hotspur are seen as among the leading contenders to go on and win this season’s competition with the quality that is in their squad. The club will be looking to win its third UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League title after having won twice in the past, back in 1972 and 1984 respectively.
Wolves were the opponents in the Lilywhites’ first win in the early 1970s, with the opening leg of this two game tie taking place at Molineux in the West Midlands. This was a game that was won 2 – 1 by the visiting side, with Martin Chivers (57’, 87’) scoring for Spurs in the first leg to give them an advantage going into the second and final leg at White Hart Lane.
It was a 1 – 1 draw at the end of the second leg between these two clubs, with Alexandre Czerniatynski (60’) and Graham Roberts (84’) scoring for their respective clubs in this stalemate in North London. Tottenham won the 1972 UEFA Cup Final 3 – 2 on aggregate in the 1972 UEFA Cup Final.
In the second and most recent triumph in this competition back in 1984, where their opponents on this occasion were Anderlecht from Belgium, who they were also going to face over two legs. The tie was decided on penalties in the end, which ended 4 – 3 in Tottenham’s favour after the tie had ended level at 2 – 2.
The first leg was a 1 – 1 draw, with Paul Miller (57’) and Morten Olsen (85’) scoring the goals at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium in Brussels. The second leg was then played at the iconic White Hart Lane in front of a 46,258 strong crowd. This was another 1 – 1 draw following goals from Alexandre Czerniatynski (60’) and Graham Roberts for their respective clubs.
As for AZ Alkmaar, they are a club that are yet to get their hand on a European trophy, but they have managed to reach the final of this competition, doing so when it was known as the UEFA Cup back in the 1980/81 season. They were defeated 5 – 4 in the two legged final against Ipswich Town.
They lost the first leg at Portman Road 3 – 0, before beating the Tractor Boys 4 – 2 in the second leg at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam. This win did not prove to be enough for the Dutch side in the end.
AZ found the back of the net in the second leg thanks to goals from Kurt Welzl (7’), John Metgod (25’), Pier Tol (40’), and Jos Jonker (73’).
This will be the first time that Spurs have met face to face with AZ Alkmaar in a competitive match, and a victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in North London would most certainly aid their cause to win the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League.
The atmosphere promises to be fantastic for a game that looks set to be enthralling and highly competitive. There is no better way to watch this crucial contest between Tottenham Hotspur and AZ Alkmaar than with an Eventmasters VIP Hospitality Package.
