The first time they won it was in the 1950-51 season; the second and last time they won the top division in English football was in 1960-61. These victories came prior to the formation of the Premier League in 1992. Tottenham have similarly won the second division (what is now the Championship) twice; championing that division in both the 1919-20 and the 1949-50 seasons.

Sheffield Wednesday came 2nd with 58 points and Wolverhampton Wanderers finished 3rd with 57 points. Spurs won the FA Cup in the same year. During their 1950-51 winning league campaign, Spurs topped the league with 60 points. Manchester United finished second with 56 points and Blackpool came third with 50. Tottenham won 25 games in total, drew 10 and lost 7.
