Tottenham Hotspur v Chelsea Match Preview

Spurs v Palace

Spurs welcome the Blues to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium looking for a win to maintain their unbeaten run and stay top of the table.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham have made an incredible start to the 2023/24 Premier League season, with them unbeaten in their first ten matches, with eight wins and two draws, with Chelsea their next opponents at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday 6th November (20:00 Kick Off).

As a result of their form, they sit at the summit of the table with 26 points, and they are 2 points ahead of North London rivals Arsenal in 2nd and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in 3rd place.

The aim for Spurs in the Premier League this season is to qualify for the UEFA Champions League with a top-four finish. As we mentioned, they are leading the race for a spot in European football’s premier club competition, with them sitting in 1st place.

After missing out on European Football last term, they will be determined not to do so again in 2023/24. A win against Chelsea would further strengthen their hopes of Champions League football, and they would remain at the top.

Tottenham’s first game of the 2023/24 Premier League season saw them face Thomas Frank’s Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium. In their first game since Harry Kane’s departure for Bayern Munich, the Lilywhites drew 2 – 2 with the Bees. Cristian Romero (11’) and Emerson Royal (45+4’) were both on the scoresheet for the away side that day. Bryan Mbeumo (27’) and Yoane Wissa (36’) were the goal scorers for the hosts.

A first home game of the season against Manchester United in North London followed, and it ended up being a statement victory for Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur, who were 2 – 0 winners against Erik Ten Hag’s Red Devils. Pape Matar Sarr (49’) and an own goal from United central defender Lisandro Martinez (83’) in the second half ensured all three points for the Lilywhites.

Another 2 – 0 win followed on the South Coast against Andoni Iraola’s AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium before an emphatic 5 – 2 victory was secured against newly promoted Burnley at Turf Moor a week later. The goal scorers that day for Tottenham were Son Heung-Min (16’, 63’, 66’), Cristian Romero (45+2’) and summer signing James Maddison (54’).

Spurs then came from behind to beat Paul Heckingbottom’s newly promoted Sheffield United side, beating them 2 – 1. Both of the home side’s goals came in second-half stoppage time, with Richarlison (90+8’) and Dejan Kulusevski (90+10’) both finding the back of the Blades’ net in dramatic fashion.

The North London Derby came next, and in a tense and competitive match, Spurs and Arsenal drew 2 – 2 at the Emirates Stadium. Son Heung-Min scored both goals for the Lilywhites that day (42’, 55’).

Yet another statement win followed in Tottenham’s next match when they emerged as 2 – 1 winners against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. Son Heung-Min (36’) gave them the lead before Cody Gakpo found the Reds’ equaliser in first-half stoppage time (45+4’). An own goal from Liverpool central defender Joel Matip won Spurs the game in the last seconds of the second half (90+6’).

Micky Van de Ven, a summer signing from German Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg, was on the scoresheet (52’) in a 1 – 0 win at Kenilworth Road against Luton Town after the game against Liverpool.

London rivals Fulham were the next Premier League opponents for Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs side, who won 2 – 0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium following goals from Son Heung-Min (36’) and James Maddison (54’).

Then came Tottenham’s most recent Premier League match, against Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in late October 2023. It was a 2 – 1 win for Spurs, scoring through an own goal from Joel Ward (53’) and Son Heung-Min (66’).

We now move on to Spurs’ next Premier League match against London rivals Chelsea, led by ex-Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino. The game will be played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday, 6th November 2023 (20:00 Kick Off).

As of the time of writing, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have played against each other on 175 occasions, including their first-ever meeting on 18th December 1909. It is Chelsea who have the superior record of 77 wins in comparison with Tottenham’s 56. There have been 42 draws to date.

Spurs’ most recent encounter with Chelsea was on 26th February 2023, where they were 2 – 0 winners in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Oliver Skipp (46’) and Harry Kane (82’) were on the Lilywhites’ scoresheet that day.

After their game against Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur’s next Premier League fixture will be against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux. Their next home game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa on Sunday, 26th November 2023 (14:00 Kick Off).
