Match Preview: Spurs v Fulham

Match Preview: Spurs v Fulham – Premier League

Spurs take on Fulham at Craven Cottage in the Premier League on Monday night, with Antonio Conte’s side hoping to make ground on Manchester United in 4th.

There is good news for Tottenham fans ahead of kick-off, with Rodrigo Bentancur set to make his return from an injury what he picked up during Spurs’ spectacular 4-3  comeback win against Leeds United in November 2022, when he was on the scoresheet.

The Uruguayan midfielder has been one of the in form players for the Lilywhites this season. He ranks first in the team for possession (7.7), tackles (2.6), tackles won (1.6) and blocks (1) per 90 minutes, meaning that Spurs tend to be stronger defensively with him in the team.

Tottenham are in 5th place on 33 points and are one of the teams battling to qualify for European football come the end of the season. The gap to fourth place is 5 points, but should they beat Fulham, this gap to Manchester United will reduce to just 3 points.

Marco Silva’s Fulham are flying high in the league, sitting in 7th place with 31 point and are also in the hunt for European Football.

They are one of the Premier League in form teams with four wins from their last five games, including an impressive 2-1 success against London rivals Chelsea.

Tottenham and Fulham have played each other 101 times to date. Historically, it is Spurs with the superior record, winning 53 times compared to 18 for the Cottagers.

Spurs won their most recent match on 3rd September 2022 where Conte’s side secured a 2-1 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, courtesy of goals from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Harry Kane.

Harry Kane is Spurs’ top goal scorer in the Premier League so far this season with 15 goals in 20 matches. Rodrigo Bentancur, Hojbjerg and Son Heung-Min are all top goal scorers for Spurs this season with 4 each.

Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic is Fulham’s top scorer with 11 goals. Bobby De Cordova-Reid is second with 4, with summer signing Joao Palhinha in third with 3.

Ahead of the match, Conte has said: “In the Premier League, it’s full of difficult games. We have to stick together, to fight, to understand that the situation won’t be easy. If we go there with this personality and we pay more attention, we use what happened (at City) to improve the team, I think we can get a good result.” (via Tottenham Hotspur).

This is a vital match for Spurs and as such plenty of passion and goals are expected from both teams in what is also a London derby.
