The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has now replaced their old stadium ‘White Hart Lane’, which they played at for 118 years!
As the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was quite outdated, the club looked for different ways to modernise the stadium and improve the location for the players and the fans. However, they were unsure whether they should make a whole new stadium or refurbish an existing one, and they went ahead with renovating an existing one.

Spurs vs Ipswich Town Previous Fixture
Ipswich Town 2 – 1 Spurs (Saturday 12th January 2002)
The most recent Premier League match between Spurs and newly promoted Ipswich Town occurred on Saturday, 12th January 2002, at Portman Road. The Manager of Tottenham at the time was Glenn Hoddle and victory against the Tractor Boys in the 2001/02 season would boost Spurs’ chances of European Qualification.
Fast-forward to 2024/25, and Spurs will be looking for victory against Ipswich to give them hope of securing a long-awaited return to the UEFA Champions League.
Ahead of their last Premier League meeting in January 2002, Spurs were in 7th place with 31 points to their name. The North London outfit was just 2 points adrift of Chelsea in 6th and just 7 below Liverpool in 5th place.
In their most recent Premier League game before facing Ipswich Town back in 2002, Glenn Hoddle’s Tottenham side had beaten Blackburn Rovers 1 – 0 at White Hart Lane in North London, where Dean Richards scored the winning goal at the latter stages of the first half (45’).
Meanwhile, George Burley’s Ipswich Town sat in 19th place in the relegation zone with a total of 18 points to their name. Four points separated them from safety with Middlesbrough in 17th place.
In the end, Spurs were defeated narrowly 2 – 1 by the Tractor Boys at Portman Road. Marcus Bent gave the relegation-threatened hosts the lead within the first 15 minutes of the contest (12’), and this was to be the only goal of the first half, with neither side managing to add to the scoreline before the half-time whistle blew.
Then, early on in the second half, Uruguayan midfielder Gustavo Poyet restored parity with an equaliser to make it 1 – 1 on the day with a goal that lasted more than half an hour (58’).
Unfortunately for Glenn Hoddle and his Spurs side, they would end up being the losing side, as they conceded the goal to be the winner. John McGreal came up with a late winner for George Burley’s Tractor Boys with less than ten minutes of normal time remaining in the game (81’).
The full-time whistle then went to confirm Spurs’ narrow 2 – 1 defeat against Ipswich Town at Portman Road on the day.
As a result of this result, Spurs dropped down to 8th place with 31 points, although they remained in the race for European Football. They were now only 3 points behind Chelsea in 6th place. As for Ipswich Town, they climbed up one place to 18th place, now with 21 points to their name with this victory. This win saw them one point adrift of safety, albeit 17th place Middlesbrough had a game in hand on the Tractor Boys.
