UEFA Europa League: Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Spurs Preview
Tottenham Hotspur will have their sights set on a place in the Semi Finals of this season’s Europa League, and victory against their German opponents would see them secure a place in the Semi Finals.
We are now at the business end of the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League, with the second leg of all of the Quarter Final ties set to be played on Thursday evening. Ange Postecoglou and his Spurs side are of course amongst the final eight clubs in the competition, and they will be looking to get the better of German Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt away from home in Germany in order to advance into the Semi Finals.
This game will be taking place on Thursday 17th April 2025 at Eintracht Frankfurt’s Deutsche Bank Park, with this crucial contest in this European competition set to get started at 20:00.
The first leg of this tie of course took place in North London at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where it was a 1 – 1 stalemate between the clubs from the English Premier League and the German Bundesliga respectively. It was the visitors who initially opened the scoring through their French forward Hugo Ekitiké within the first ten minutes (6’) before Spurs equalised through their Spanish right back Pedro Porro with almost half an hour gone (26’).
Spurs were in fantastic form in the League Phase, winning five, drawing one, and losing just two of their matches. Tottenham’s victories came against the likes of Qarabag (3 – 0), Ferencvaros (2 – 1), AZ Alkmaar (1 – 0), Hoffenheim (3 – 2), and finally Elfsborg (3 – 0).
Then came the Round of 16, when they went toe to toe with AZ Alkmaar, who they had faced in the League Phase. Thanks to an own goal from Spurs’ 19 year old Swedish central midfielder Lucas Bergvall early on in the first half with less than twenty minutes having gone at that point in the game (18’).
Then in the second leg, Spurs were of course able to turn things around for them to progress into the Quarter Finals. Tottenham Hotspur beat AZ 3 – 1 in North London thanks to goals from Wilson Odobert (26’, 74’) and James Maddison (48’), whilst it was Peer Koopmeiners who got the sole goal for the visiting Dutch side (63’).
If Spurs can qualify for the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League Semi Finals, the North London club will be going face to face with either Norway’s Bodø/Glimt or Italy’s Lazio. In the first leg, Bodø/Glimt shocked Lazio by beating them 2 – 0 in Norway thanks to a spectacular brace from the home side’s central midfielder Ulrik Saltnes (47’, 69’).
Excitement and anticipation are building ahead of this much anticipated second leg tie between Dino Toppmöller’s Eintracht Frankfurt and Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur in the Quarter Finals of the 2024/25 UEFA Conference League.
