Match Report: Spurs vs Southampton

Harry Kane scores his 8th hat-trick of 2017 in a seven-goal thriller against Southampton. Kane has been in the form of his life over the last year or so and the Englishmen has set himself another record. His 8th hat-trick of the year meant that Kane finishes 2017 on a magnificent 39 goals, surpassing the Alan Shearer’s previous record of 36 goals for the calendar year. In Pochetinno style, Tottenham had pressed the Saints from the outset, with their early pressure resulting in a goal midway through the first half. Eriksen, with a sublime ball into the box, found Kane just one yard from the goal for an easy conversion to put Spurs ahead.

Kane’s second came in the 39th minute, after a lovely passage of play between Alli and Son, who eventually set Harry up for his second of the match. Southampton weren’t ready to surrender just yet, after the break Lemina hit the crossbar from a long-distance shot. Alli and Son then provided Spurs with their 3rd  and 4th goals before Harry netted to complete his hat-trick. Alli beat Forster with finesse from the edge of the area, and later provided a through ball to Son who was happy to convert.

Boufal reduced the Saints deficit by one in the 54th minute but his efforts seemed in vain as Kane wonderfully lobbed Forster to put Tottenham Hotspur three goals ahead. Tadic had the last goal of the game via a lobbed effort that beat Hugo Lloris. Harry Kane rightfully was awarded man of the match.
