Tottenham Hotspur vs Nottingham Forest – Premier League Match Preview

Spurs look to get back to winning ways as they continue to challenge for European Football

Antonio Conte’s Tottenham face relegation threatened Nottingham Forest at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, as they look to bounce back from recent defeats against Wolves and AC Milan.

A win over Steve Cooper’s Reds would see Spurs maintain their spot in the top four and put them within a point of Manchester United, should results go their way.

Tottenham have had a good Premier League campaign, currently sitting in 4th place with 45 points, only four behind the Red Devils in third. United still have a game in hand on the Lilywhites.

Nottingham Forest are having a solid first season back in the top flight after a twenty years absence and are currently in 14th place just 4 points above Everton in 18th.

The most recent victory for Tottenham was a comfortable 2-0 victory against London rivals Chelsea, with the goals coming courtesy of Harry Kane and Oliver Skipp, who scored his first senior goal for the club in spectacular fashion.

Forest played out a 2 – 2 draw against fellow Premier League relegation candidates Everton at the City Ground on Sunday. Two goals from Brennan Johnson ensured a valuable point for Cooper’s side.

This will be Nottingham Forest’s first league visit to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but this is certainly not the first time that the two clubs have come face to face with each other.

The two clubs first met on 25th December 1909, which saw a 2-2 draw play out at White Hart Lane. Over the years, they have played each other 122 times – Spurs do have the superior record, with 56 wins compared to 37 for Forest.

Spurs beat Cooper’s Reds 2-0 in their most recent meeting in the league at the City Ground in August 2022. Both goals on the day came from the club’s all-time leading goal scorer, Harry Kane.

At the time of writing, the top goal scorer so far this season for Tottenham is unsurprisingly Kane with 20 goals (with 4 assists). Heung-Min Son is next with 9 goals and 3 assists. Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are third and fourth with 6 and 5 goals respectively.

Nottingham Forest’s top scorer this season in all competitions is Brennan Johnson with 9 goals (and 2 assists). Summer signing Taiwo Awoniyi has 5 whilst Sam Surridge is just behind him with 3 goals so far. Morgan Gibbs-White and ex-Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard have 2 goals each.

Tottenham will be looking for their fourth win in six Premier League matches as they continue to challenge for Champions League football next season.
