Tottenham Hotspur offer Harry Kane a new contract
Spurs look to fend off Bayern Munich’s interest by offering a new contract to the club’s all-time leading goal scorer
Speculation around Harry Kane’s future at Tottenham Hotspur is rife, and at least for now, it is unclear whether the club’s all-time leading goal scorer will remain in North London or seek pastures new. Real Madrid have shown an interest in the forward, but it seems that German Champions Bayern Munich are most likely to secure his signature should Kane choose to leave Spurs this summer.
The Bavarian heavyweights reportedly made an offer in the region of €70 million (£59.7 million) for Kane’s services. Still, in what is good news for Spurs fans, Daniel Levy seems adamant that he is not for sale.
Levy and Spurs’ stance on Kane’s future has been made even more apparent with the offer of a new lucrative contract to try and entice the England international to stay at the club for next season and beyond. The Guardian reports that the wages on offer in this reported new deal is rumoured to be a significant increase on his current rumoured salary of £200,000 a week.
Reports also suggest that even with the possibility of a move to Germany, Kane’s time at Tottenham could extend beyond this summer transfer window. There is hope that new Head Coach Ange Postecoglu can help persuade the forward to stay for at least another season as the Australian looks to guide Spurs back into Europe and Champions League qualification.
Tottenham’s summer recruitment could also entice Kane to stay. James Maddison has already made the move from Leicester City, whilst goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has also decided to make North London his new home. Manor Solomon, one of Fulham’s outstanding players from last season, is rumoured to be on the verge of sealing a transfer to the Lilywhites.
In addition, Tottenham are also looking to strengthen their defence, with Wolfsburg’s Micky Van de Ven rumoured to be potentially signing for the club this summer for a fee of £30 million. Rumours also suggest that Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba has also been of interest to the Lilywhites – he is the more expensive of the two, with a reported asking price of £50 million.
It would be a significant blow for the club if Kane chose to leave, but there is still hope, whilst there is still a possibility of a new contract to extend the forward’s time at the club he joined back in 2004.
Since then, he has become Tottenham and the England National Team’s all-time leading goal scorer. The great Jimmy Greaves was previously the Lilywhites’ leading scorer until Kane broke the record by scoring his 267th goal for the club in a 1-0 Premier League victory against Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Kane then went on to score his 54th goal for England in a 2-1 win in a EURO 2024 Qualifier against Italy in Naples. Wayne Rooney was the previous holder of this record.
Last season (2022/23), only Erling Haaland bettered Kane’s 30 Premier League goals.
It remains to be seen if Harry Kane decides to stay at Spurs or leave for pastures new, but there is, of course, still hope that he could extend his stay in North London in what would be a significant boost for the club and its fans.
