Tottenham Hotspur 2018 World Cup Watch: The Stats

As you can imagine, an elite club like Tottenham Hotspur have a vast array of players heading to Russia to compete in the 2018 World Cup.

With the season over, champions league secured, Spurs fans turn their sights to the World Cup to acquire their next fix of top-notch footy. Players from Belgium and England carry the most Spurs players in their squads, and coincidently, these titans will clash as the final fixture of Group G on the 28th June. More likely than not, it will be England and Belgium that go through to the knock-out stages – rather than Panama and Tunisia. However saying that anything can happen in the World Cup.

Stat Attack

In the England Squad you have:

Your captain, the main man Harry Edward Kane. The world will look upon Kane as he attempts to replicate his prolific Spurs goal-scoring record for England.

Harry Kane has scored 12 goals and appeared 23 times for England in a senior capacity. He scored on his debut against Lithuania on the 27th March 2015. Kane has skippered England four times and will lead the team out in Russia – hopefully, he will not be taking free kicks or corners…

The fullbacks

Danny Rose – after recovering from a longstanding injury, Southgate has selected Rose appreciating his natural talents as a left-back. Rose was in the GB Olympic team in the 2012 Summer Olympics. He debuted in the England team against Germany in 2016. He has appeared for England 16 times.

Kieran Trippier – Trippier has had a fantastic season at Spurs this season, and has been noted for his power going forward. Trippier debuted for England against France on 13th June 2017 and has played for the senior side five times in total. He will most likely be ancillary to Manchester City’s Kyle Walker.

Eric Dier – Dier has too found himself the first team choice this season in the CDM role for Spurs. Eric Dier was selected for the 2016 Euros where he scored a belter of a free kick against Russia in the 1-1 draw. Let’s hope he can replicate it in Russia this time! Eric debuted in 2015 and has scored three goals in 25 appearances for England.

Last but certainly not least, the midfield maestro Dele Alli. Another wonderful season for this wonder kid at club level. He scored in his first start for England against France in 2015, beating fellow-Spur Hugo Lloris. Dele has scored two goals in 23 appearances for the senior England squad. I think you would agree that the 2018 World Cup is Dele Alli’s time to shine.

In the Belgium Squad you have:

Jan Vertonghen – Vertonghen has had a phenomenal season, yet again, leading the back four for Spurs. He will no doubt prove a frustrating opponent for the England strike force. Vertonghen appeared for the Senior Belgian side in 2007; he’s made 99 appearances and scored eight times.

Toby Alderweireld – Out of favour, Alderweireld has had a frustrating season with Spurs having sustained a serious injury midway through the season. An excellent defender, who when partnered with Jan Vertonghen, will provide a solid rock in the back-four. Alderweireld has played 68 senior games for Belgium since 2009, and has netted three times.

Eric Dier’s midfield partner Mousa Dembele will no doubt start in the Belgian XI. Debuting against Slovakia in 2006, Dembele has scored five goals in 74 appearances for Belgium.

21-year-old Davinson Sanchez has been selected to represent Colombia. Sanchez has only just broken on to the senior international scene after a hugely impressive first season with Tottenham Hotspur.

For France, Hugo Lloris will captain the national squad just has he does Spurs on a regular basis. Hugo Lloris played his first game between the sticks for France in 2008 against Spain. He received the armband for the first time in 2010. Lloris has played a total of 96 games for France.

Denmark turned a few heads with their impressive qualification campaign and Christian Eriksen will be pulling all the strings for the Danes in Russia. Eriksen debuted for Denmark in 2008. He was instrumental to the nation’s qualification for the 2018 World Cup; Eriksen scored 11 goals to secure Denmark a ticket to Russia. He has scored 21 goals in 77 matches in his international career.

Heung-Min Son will be the key player for South Korea this summer, having just won the Asian Player of the Year award. Son has scored 20 goals in 63 matches for South Korea since his debut in 2010.
