Spurs v Brentford Previous Fixture
Brentford 0 – 2 Spurs (Sunday 2nd February 2025)
Spurs’ most recent game in the Premier League against Brentford was played at the Bees’ Gtech Community Stadium, which is located in West London, back on Sunday 2nd February 2025. Victory against their fellow London based club would see Spurs collect a crucial set of three points against a side who are amongst the clubs fighting for European Football.
Ahead of this game between Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford, the Lilywhites were sat in 15th place with a total of 24 points to their name at this point in their 2024/25 top flight campaign. They knew that a win in this game would see them potentially climb up to 13th place as they looked to narrow the gap between themselves and the top half of the table.
Before coming face to face with Brentford, Spurs had been narrowly defeated 2 – 1 by Leicester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the heart of North London. The hosts’ only goal of that game came from Richarlison, who did give his side the initial lead late on in the first half (33’). As for the Bees, they had just beaten Crystal Palace 2 – 1 away from home at Selhurst Park against the Eagles a week before.
Meanwhile, Brentford sat in 11th place with a grand total of 31 points to their name heading into this game against Spurs. They were thinking that a win against their fellow London club could see them climb as high as 9th place as they looked to further narrow the gap between themselves and the European places.
In the end, it was Tottenham who came away the happier of the two teams in this game, with them having beaten Brentford 2 – 0 in what is their most recent encounter in the Premier League before the 2025/26 season. It was a crucial and precious set of three points for the North London club.
It was the hosts Brentford who had the opening opportunity of the game, only for Mikkel Damsgaard to have an effort on goal blocked well by the Spurs defenders (3’).
Then, there was a first chance for Spurs through their Swedish international forward Dejan Kulusevski, who looked to score from just within the penalty area after receiving the ball from defender Djed Spence. Instead, his effort on goal was off target in the end with the game remaining on level terms at 0 – 0 (6’).
There was then a flurry of chances for both teams going into the latter stages of the first half. Firstly, it was Kevin Shade of Brentford who had a chance, only for the German forward to get his shot blocked (19’). Then for Spurs, Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski had efforts on goal blocked in quick succession just moments later (20’). Yoane Wissa then missed the target with a header for Brentford just a few minutes after Spurs’ misses (23’). It remained goalless at 0 – 0.
It took until when almost half an hour of this game had been played for someone to take the lead, and it was Spurs who scored to take a one goal lead thanks to an own goal that was scored by Bournemouth’s German central midfielder Vitaly Janelt (29’).
Despite further chances coming for both of these teams, there were no further goals to come in the first half, which meant that Spurs and Brentford went into the half time break at the Gtech Community Stadium with the Lilywhites one goal to the good against the Bees.
At the start of the second half, and following chances for Kevin Shade (52’) and Yoane Wissa (53’), the latter of which hit the bar, Spurs had their chances through Dejan Kulusevski (55’) and Lucas Bergvall (60’), who both missed the target.
It took some time for the next goal to finally arrive in this game despite the chances, and it was Tottenham Hotspur who were able to score the second goal to double their advantage in this game. This was when their central midfielder Pape Matar Sarr found the bottom left corner of the net to make it 2 – 0 to Spurs against Brentford. The Senegal international had been found thanks to a through ball from Son Heung-Min (87’). It was now game over, and Spurs had a set of what were crucial three points in the bag.
It was the hosts Brentford who had the most possession with 53.9% of the ball compared with Tottenham’s total of 46.1% overall. The Bees also had more shots on target with 4 to Spurs’ 2 – the Lilywhites had scored with both of their shots on target which showed that they were in ruthless, clinical form on that day.
