When did Tottenham Hotspur do the double?

Tottenham Hotspur won what is commonly known in football as ‘the double’, finishing top of the League and winning the FA Cup, in the 1960-61 season.

Spurs were the first team to ‘do the double’ in the 20th century.

Tottenham Hotspur championed the 1960-61 league season with 66 points; they finished 8 points ahead of Sheffield Wednesday, who came second. Spurs won 31 out of a possible 42 games; they lost seven and drew four games.

Spurs beat Leicester City on the 6th May 1961 in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium. They won the game 2-0: both Bobby Smith and Terry Dyson scored a goal each. On their road to the final, Tottenham played and beat the following teams: Charlton Athletic, Crewe Alexandra, Aston Villa, Sunderland, and Burnley. Bobby Smith scored the most goals for Spurs that season in both the league and in the FA Cup. Smith scored 28 goals in the league, and 5 in the cup run. This was the only time Tottenham Hotspur have won both the league and the FA Cup in the same year.
