Spurs v Chelsea v Sheffield United 2023/24

Tottenham will face newly promoted Sheffield United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the 2023/24 Premier League season. The aim for the season for Ange Postecoglou’s side will be to secure a return to European football with a top-seven finish. As for the Blades, Head Coach Paul Heckingbottom will be looking to guide his team to safety.

The first ever match between these two clubs was in the 1901 FA Cup Final, which took place on 20th April of that year. THFC and the Blades drew 2-2, with Alexander ‘Sandy’ Brown scoring both of Tottenham’s goals that day (23’, 51’). As a result of this draw, the final went to a replay.

In the replay, it was a 3-1 victory for Spurs, with the club winning the first of their eight FA Cups. John Cameron (52’), Tom Smith (76’) and Alexander Brown (87’) scored the goals for the Lilywhites. This win was also Tottenham’s first against Sheffield United.

Spurs’ most recent Premier League meeting with the Blades occurred on 2nd May 2021 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where the home side were emphatic 4-0 winners. Gareth Bale (36’, 61’ & 69’) and Son Heung-Min (77’) scored for Tottenham that day.

Fast forward to 1st March 2023, which saw the most recent match between Spurs and Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, where the home side won 1-0 in the 5th Round of the 2022/23 FA Cup.

Historically, Tottenham have been dominant in this fixture over the years. Out of their 95 meeting to date, THFC has won 38 times in comparison to the Blades’ 30. There have been 27 draws between these two clubs as of the time of writing.

Following this match, these two teams will meet in the Premier League again, this time at Bramall Lane, on Sunday, 19th May 2024. Head Coach Ange Postecoglou will be looking to see his side complete the league double against their Yorkshire counterparts.
