Transfer News: Matias Soule to Spurs?

Matias Soule

Spurs have been one of the clubs linked with a move for the Argentinian forward this summer.

There are still weeks to go until the 2025 Summer Transfer Window comes to a close at 7pm on Monday 1st September 2025. Spurs have signed a number of players so far, with many more having been linked with a move to the North London area in what remains of this window – one of them is AS Roma’s 22 year old Argentinian forward Matias Soule.

Any further transfer business for Thomas Frank’s side will follow deals that have been completed so far. The Lilywhites have already sealed the signature of the likes of Mohammed Kudus (From West Ham United), Mathys Tel (From Bayern Munich), Kevin Danso (From RC Lens), Luka Vuskovic (From Hadjuk Split), and Kota Takai (From Kawasaki Frontale).

As mentioned previously, Matias Soule is currently playing his football for Italian Serie A Giants AS Roma. He initially joined the club in what was a permanent deal from Juventus back on Tuesday 30th July 2024, for a rumoured transfer fee of €26 million, where he went on to sign an initial five year contract that expires on Saturday 30th June 2029.

He caught the eye for the Giallorossi (The Yellow and Reds) last season (2024/25), he was able to score 5 goals whilst also providing 5 assists to boot in Serie A alone last term, meaning that he had a total of ten goal contributions for the team.

Soule predominantly plays on the right wing, but he has been known to have played in other positions on the pitch in the past. He has also been deployed as a second striker, an attacking midfielder, and a right midfielder, whilst also having been played as centre forward on just one occasion to date.

Rewinding to the start of Matias Soule’s career, he began in his native Argentina with Kimberley from 2009 to 2015 before joining Velez Sarsfield in 2015.

He spent five years there before signing for the aforementioned Juventus in 2020 at the age of 17 – at first, he predominantly played his football at the Old Lady as part of their youth teams.

His time with the Juventus Youth teams saw him represent their Under 19s and their ‘next gen’ squad, which lasted for two years between 2021 and 2023, making a total of 75 appearances, scoring a combined total of 12 goals, whilst also registering 13 assists.

During this period, he did get rare opportunities in the Juventus First Team – he made two appearances in Serie A in the 2021/22 season, whilst also playing for Juve three times in the highly prestigious UEFA Champions League during the 2022/23 edition of this famous Europe wide cup competition.

The 2022/23 season did start to see him feature more in the first team, with 13 appearances coming in Serie A, where he did manage to score a goal, whilst also making two appearances in that season’s UEFA Europa League after his club was knocked out of the Champions League in the Group Stages.

However, in the search for regular game time at the senior level, Matias Soule was officially sent out on what was a season long loan to fellow Italian Serie A Club Frosinone, where he would go on to impress, catching the eye of many a club and football fan throughout Europe.

During the 2023/24 campaign, his only season spent with the club, he made a total of 39 appearances in all competitions, with 36 of them coming in the league. In the Italian top flight, he was able to score no less than 11 goals whilst also providing a total of 3 assists to boot.

Despite his efforts, the Canarini (the Canaries) were relegated to Serie B, the Italian Second Division, with an 18th place finish, with them having earned a grand total of 35 points from their 38 games, missing out on safety by a solitary point behind 17th place Empoli.

Soule did, however, impress enough to earn a big move elsewhere, and this was when he decided to join his current club, Roma, in the Summer of 2024, completing his move in June that year.

If Matias Soule did make the move to North London to join Thomas Frank’s Spurs side, then it would be an exciting signing for the Lilywhites, with the Argentine forward able to provide further energy and goal scoring ability to the club’s forward line in all competitions in the upcoming season.

Excitement and anticipation are both building rapidly ahead of the start of the 2025/26 Premier League season, which is about to get underway, and all eyes will be on Thomas Frank’s first full season in charge of the North London Club.
