Spurs Player Focus: Richarlison

Richarlison is a regular senior international with Brazil since making his debut against the United States in September 2018. He scored one of Brazil’s two goals in their 2-1 Copa America Final win against Peru in 2019.

He is a physical player standing at 6ft 3in but he is also a very technical player with an eye for goal. The Brazilian will cause trouble for every defence he faces for Spurs.

Beginnings of his career (2015 – 2017)

The forward began his professional career at America Mineiro in 2015 with whom he scored 9 goals in his 24 appearances for the club, helping them to promotion to the top flight. He spent a single season at the club before moving to one of Brazil’s biggest clubs, Fluminense.

Richarlison had an exceptional time at the club, scoring 11 goals and 7 assists in his 46 appearances.

Move to Watford (2017 – 2018)

He made his first steps into English Football in 2017/18 when he joined Watford who were in the Premier League. His debut was against none other than Liverpool before going on to score 5 goals, whilst also providing 4 assists for his teammates.

This was to be his only season at the Hornets, playing all 38 Premier League games before reuniting with ex-manager Marco Silva at Everton.

Career at Everton (2018 – 2022)

Richarlison signed for the Toffees in July 2018. In his first full season (2018/19), he scored an impressive 13 goals in 35 appearances, helping his team to an 8th place finish with 54 points.

His second season (2019/20) saw the Brazilian continue his brilliant form in blue and white, ending the season as joint top goal scorer with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, scoring 13 goals in his 36 appearances in that season.

Despite the sacking of Marco Silva in December 2019, they managed to finish a very respectable 12th place on 49 points. An impressive League Cup run saw them reach the quarter final stage.

The 2020/21 season saw Richarlison have another good campaign, scoring 7 goals whilst also providing 3 assists. Only Calvert-Lewin scored more for Everton that season with 16. It was another good season overall for the club too, finishing 10th with 59 points.

Everton once again made it to the League Cup Quarter Final, with Richarlison scoring on 3 occasions. They would also reach the FA Cup Quarter Final where they lost 2-0 to Manchester City.

Richarlison’s final season on Merseyside (2021/22) saw Everton finish just above the Premier League relegation zone in 16th on 39 points. Despite this poor season for the club, he was still impressive scoring 10 goals whilst also providing 5 assists. He was the club’s top scorer, as well as being top of the club’s assist chart.

Transfer to Tottenham (2022 – present)

The impressive form he had shown over his three seasons with Everton earned him a move to Premier League giants Tottenham in July 2022 for £50M.

He has enjoyed a good start with the Lilywhites, scoring 2 goals with 3 assists to boot in his 13 appearances in all competitions.
