Spurs set to play their Championship counterparts for a place in the FA Cup Quarter Final

Spurs 2 – 0 Chelsea Match Review:

Tottenham take a break from Premier League action on Wednesday evening when they face EFL Championship club Sheffield United away at Bramall Lane in a bid to reach the Quarter Final of this year’s FA Cup.

Spurs entered the competition in the third round, where they faced League One (Third Tier) club Portsmouth in January 2023. They were able to beat Pompey 1 – 0 thanks to a goal from Harry Kane.

It was then a trip to another Championship Club Preston North End n the fourth round, winning 3 – 0 at Deepdale with goals from Heung-Min Son and debutant Arnaut Danjuma.

Tottenham’s most recent major trophy was the League Cup in 2008, beating Chelsea in the final. The Lilywhites last won the FA Cup in 1991, which was their ninth victory in this competition.

Antonio Conte’s side have had a great season so far currently in 4th place in the Premier League and well on track for Champions League football next season. They have had some great wins of late, including a 1 – 0 win against League Champions Manchester City and are only 4 points behind Manchester United in 3rd.

As for Sheffield United, they are also flying high, with a very impressive 7 wins in their last 10 Championship matches. Paul Heckingbottom’s Blades currently sit in second place, 7 points clear of Middlesbrough in third.

It was not easy for the Championship club to reach the fifth round of the FA Cup. National League (5th Tier) side Wrexham pushed them all the way. Heckingbottom’s side eventually won 3-1 at Bramall Lane in the replay, thanks to goals from Anel Ahmedhodžić, Billy Sharp and Sander Berge.

Tottenham Hotspur’s most recent match was a vital 2-0 Premier League victory against Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Oliver Skipp and Harry Kane’s goals helped Spurs tighten their grip on a Champions League spot.

The most recent match for the Blades was a crucial 1-0 success against fellow promotion contenders Watford, thanks to an own goal from Hornets central defender Ryan Porteous.

Tottenham and Sheffield United have met on 94 occasions over the years in all competitions. Historically, Spurs have the superior record with 38 wins in comparison to the Blades’ 29.

The two clubs most recently met on 2nd May 2021, where the Lilywhites secured an emphatic 4-0 Premier League win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Unsurprisingly, Harry Kane is Spurs’ top goal scorer with 20 goals so far this season. Heung-Min Son and Rodrigo Bentancur have 9 and 6 goals respectively.

Oli McBurnie is the top goal scorer for Sheffield United this season with 12, with Iliman Ndiaye just behind the Scotland international with 10 goals to date.

This will be a game that Spurs will be expected to win as the Premier League side. The FA Cup is famous for it’s upsets though, so Antonio Conte’s side will have to take this match very seriously indeed.
