Rochdale 2-2 Spurs- FA Cup -18.02.18

Match Report: Rochdale vs Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur drew 2-2 away at League One Rochdale, which means the teams will have to play again at Wembley Stadium. Mauricio Pochettino had made 11 changes to the starting Spurs line up that clashed with Juventus midweek. The game remained locked at 0-0 until just before halftime, and both sides had good chances to take the lead. Henderson had two chances to test Michel Vorm, one bending wide, and another shot directly towards the keeper. Spurs seemed like they struggled to string passes together early on, however, new signing Lucas Moura looked bright.

Rochdale opened the scoring with a lovely passage of play on the counter-attack. Henderson found a huge pocket of space in the middle of the area after running behind the Spurs defence and converted a low cross from the right to put the home side up 1-0 on the stroke of halftime.

Tottenham began to gather momentum as the game went on. Josh Lillis was able to bat away a low shot from Heung-Min Son. Fernando Llorente had a chance to score for Spurs but missed the target. Just when it seemed that Spurs were never going to convert, Lucas Moura lifted it over the keeper on his full debut for the club. Lucas did stand out for the Lilywhites all game, and he both created and converted this passage of play. After passing the ball on the halfway line and darting forward, the ball passed between Winks and Sissoko before picking it up on the edge of the penalty area and lobbing it over the Rochdale keeper. Spurs had the chances to take the lead; Lamela and Wanyama both failing to convert from a couple of yards out. Harrison McGahey then brought down Dele Alli in the penalty area, giving substitute Harry Kane the chance to put Spurs ahead from the spot; a chance he did not squander.

However, Rochdale managed to equalise in stoppage time. Toby Alderweireld rose to clear an incoming cross and made minimal contact, only ushering the ball into the feet of Steve Davies. Davies drilled it into the bottom right-hand corner with a swing of the left boot.
