Richarlison might be a signing for Spurs in the transfer window - Spurs players at the New Stadium

Could Richarlison be the Spurs transfer summer target?

The Sun newspaper has reported recently that Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in the Watford winger Richarlison de Andrade as a possible contender to target in the summer transfer window.

The young Brazilian forward is only 20 years of age and is enjoying a fine debut season in the Premier League with the Hornets. Richarlison has made 27 appearances in all competitions for Watford and has scored five goals from wide positions.

With the consistent and prolific form that Harry Kane has shown in recent times, it seems that Tottenham Hotspur are not going to be short of goals as long as the Englishman is around. However, some pundits have criticised that the Spurs style of play is slightly one-dimensional. Spurs do enjoy a significant amount of success down the middle of the field with central players like Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli showing considerable talent. However, this means that it is mainly the fullbacks that offer the width during gameplay. Perhaps Richarlison can provide another feature for Spurs by widening their game slightly and producing more options going forward. Lucas Moura has only started once for Spurs since his arrival to the club in January, however, his versatility and quick pace may well offer this width for Spurs when he starts to integrate into the first team in the very near future. Richarlison is only 20 years old, meaning there is scope for development; and if there is anything Poch looks for, it is a youth player than he can grow into a star.

Could a transfer be on the cards for Richarlison?

Richarlison has signed a contract with Watford committing himself to the club until 2022. However, the young Brazilian has been estimated to have a £30m price tag on his head. If anything, it would offer Spurs strength in numbers and would offer Richarlison an opportunity to progress into a Champions League player. Some fans are worried that the construction of the new stadium might mean that the strings on the Spurs purse will tighten, leaving their club reluctant to fork out finances for new players. Only time will tell, we may see Richarlison in the Lilywhite shirt for the start of 2018/19 Premier League season.
