Match Report: Swansea vs Spurs
Fernando Llorente took centre-stage as his controversial header opened the scoring against his former club at the Liberty Stadium. Spurs managed to score twice against the Swans in challenging weather conditions. With the rain relentlessly gushing down, Llorente headed in a swinging free-kick to put Tottenham ahead within 12 minutes. However, the goal was incredibly controversial and later analysis has shown that Llorente was standing offside as Eriksen swung his free-kick into the box.
Fernando Llorente was swapped for Harry Kane during the second half and shortly after Dele Alli narrowly missed the target with a header whilst withstanding some heavy pressure from Swansea’s van der Hoorn. Heung-Min Son could have given Spurs their second goal with a volley that went ever so slightly wide.
It was Dele Alli that did eventually score the second after some nice link-up play with Kane. His first attempt was parried by Fabianski, but the ball fell nicely for the English midfielder who converted the rebound and cemented the win for Spurs on a difficult night in tempestuous conditions.

“I think it was difficult for the team and for him [Llorente] to play in these conditions. I am happy for him to help the team to achieve three points. When a new player arrives in a team where the dynamic is so clear always it is a struggle to find the possibility to play. He’s very professional and I’m so happy that he helped us achieve what the team wanted.”
Man of the Match
Christian Eriksen gave a blinding performance and took home the Man of the Match award. It was a wet and windy start to 2018, which seemed to put a few players in the game out of their comfort zones. Not the trusty Dane, who thrived in the tempestuous weather.
What’s next for Tottenham Hotspur?
Spurs take on West Ham, perculiarly, on Thursday.
