Early Foden goal proves decisive

Saturday 20th April Manchester City 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur

A tired Tottenham suffered defeat at the hands of the Premier League champions.

Phil Foden opened his Premier League account for the Citizens after 4 minutes, nodding home Sergio Aguero cross.

It wasn’t all one-way traffic, with Ederson making 3 vital saves from Son, Eriksen and Lucas. Laporte also thwarted Son with a last-ditch tackle, stopping Spurs from leveling the scoring.

Paulo Gazzaniga made a great save to deny Raheem Sterling just after the second half restarted.

This win edges City that little bit closer to the title.

After the Lord Mayor’s show

It was hard to top the dramatics of Wednesday night’s Champions League tie that saw Spurs progress to the semi-finals. It was very much a case of after the lord mayor’s show.

Let’s not forget, this City team is now chasing the domestic treble and have been faultless in the league this season which shows how great of a feat Wednesday was.

Spurs look tired in what wasn’t a thrilling encounter but City had to dig deep to grind out a result and deserved the 3 points thanks to an outstanding performance from Ederson

Poch’s verdict

“It was an amazing game. Both teams competed really well and we deserved more. Ederson was man of the match.

“I am happy; disappointed with the result but so happy with the performance. Our next three games will be decisive in achieving all we want this season.”

Man of the Match – Ederson

The Brazilian stopper kept City in the game.

Onto Brighton

Not much more was expected from this Spurs side against a rampant City, who’ve taken points off everybody in the league this season in emphatic fashion. If it wasn’t for Ederson, this could’ve been a very different game.

Brighton on Tuesday is much more of a winnable tie but will be by no means easy. Chris Hughton is known for setting up his teams in a defensive fashion and with Brighton potentially facing the drop, Spurs will know what they are in store for. The Albion will be resolute and hard to break down so it may take some magic to unlock the Brighton backline.
