Dele Alli Set to Return for Spurs
After a tough week for Spurs on and off the field, Mauricio Pochettino’s side face a tough test against the reigning Premier League champions Man City. Despite the disappointment from their last game against PSV Eindhoven, Spurs have made their best ever Premier League start with seven wins in nine matches. They are only two points behind unbeaten Man City and have conceded one goal in their past four matches.
Man City thrashed Burnley 5-0 last weekend and were equally dominant in their Champions League encounter with Shakhtar Donetsk, which they won 3-0. Pep Guardiola’s team have been equally impressive in defence and attack in the last few weeks and head into the Spurs tie looking almost unstoppable. However, with wins for Chelsea and Liverpool at the weekend, the pressure is on the champions to keep up with their competitors at the top and Spurs will not make that challenge easy for them.
Spurs vs Man City Team News
Importantly for Spurs, Dele Alli will return to the match day squad against Man City. The England man has spent a month on the sidelines and is a welcome return for Spurs, especially because of their busy upcoming schedule.
Danny Rose is still a doubt, although he is not far from returning to action, and Jan Vertonghen remains a long term absentee for Spurs.
For Manchester City there are major doubts over the fitness of Danilo, who picked up an injury on international duty and is still yet to recover. Fabian Delph has returned to training for the Citizens whereas Kyle Walker could come back into the starting lineup after appearing on the bench for Man City in the Champions League.
Kevin De Bruyne is likely to start for the first time this season in the Premier League after returning to full fitness and Sergio Aguero should lead the line for the champions.
Spurs vs Man City Predicted Line Up
Hugo Lloris is not suspended in the Premier League after his red card against PSV Eindhoven and so should continue in goal. A big performance is needed from him personally but also for the team, as Man City are expected to have most of the ball and chances in the match.
The Spurs back four is expected to stay the same from the last two matches, with Serge Aurier remaining behind Kieran Trippier in the pecking order.
After performing well recently, Harry Winks should come back into the team instead of either Eric Dier or Mousa Dembele.
It remains to be seen Pochettino goes with Dele Alli from the start or whether he’ll ease him back into the first team picture given the hectic schedule for Spurs.
The only other debatable place in the team is on the left hand side of midfield. One of Heung-min Son or Lucas Moura will get the nod for Spurs on Monday.
A big week starts today!

Spurs vs Man City One to Watch: Sergio Aguero
Everyone inside Wembley Stadium will know that Man City have a number of players that can win a game on their own and Sergio Aguero is one of them. Despite most believing that he is one of the best strikers in the world, in many ways the Man City striker is underrated. Still only 30 years old, he has scored 149 Premier League goals, is Man City’s record goalscorer and has won the league twice, yet the Argentine often gets overlooked for the PFA Player of the Year award each season. It will be interesting to see whether he or Harry Kane grab the headlines on Monday.
What the Managers Said
Spurs Manager Mauricio Pochettino
On Man City:
“I think for me they are the best team today in England. I think fantastic players, an amazing manager and coaching staff. The quality of the club, the players, the coaching staff and Pep of course, make them a very difficult opponent and it’s a massive challenge for us to play against them. It will be an exciting game and it’s always to have a good experience against them. You can win or lose, but we’re excited to face them.” (football.london)
On Dele Alli:
“Yes I think it’s good news but we need to be careful because he was re-injured against Watford after his first injury. Now we need to be careful. We are happy that he started today with the group. Yes, sure we hope he will be available for Monday but not sure if we’re going to put him in the squad or not.” (football.london)
Man City Manager Pep Guardiola
On playing a day after the NFL game:
“It is what it is. I’m pretty sure Tottenham have a good greenkeeper. It’s not necessary to complain, we have to adapt quickly, try to figure it out. It will not be perfect but we have to adapt and play in that way.You take care of yourself properly and focus, knowing that the pitch may not be in the best condition and you have to be more ready than ever.” (BBC Sport)

Spurs vs Man City Predicted Score
Not much is expected of Spurs going into the match because of the amount of talent in the Man City side, typified by the return of De Bruyne. However football is a funny old game and a mixture of the Wembley atmosphere, and Wembley pitch, may unsettle the rhythm of the Man City players. No matter what happens, expect goals.
Our prediction is Spurs 2-2 Man City.
