Spurs Transfer Rumours: Who is coming and going at the new stadium this summer?

While the summer transfer window for the Premier League has been open for a couple weeks following the end of the season, the window for the rest of Europe will open in the next few days, starting another round of feverish speculation. Couple this with the opening of the new stadium and the recent renewal of Mauricio Pochettino’s contract and Tottenham Hotspur is one of the hottest properties in English football at the moment, a magnet for new players looking to make their mark.

With so many possibilities flying around, here is our round up of the biggest transfer rumours of the past few days.

Joining Tottenham Hotspur

Gareth Bale

We know. The Real Madrid wonderkid, Champions League final goal scoring wizard and former Tottenham Hotspur winger has been rumoured, with varying degrees of accuracy, to be returning to the team during every transfer window the past few years. But with comments after the Champions League final about his desire to return to first team football, plus speculation about bids from other English teams, and a rumoured plan for an ‘audacious’ offer from Spurs being reported by the Independent, the Welshman may be returning to White Hart Lane.

Anthony Martial

The French national is currently at Manchester United, but where he hasn’t been a regular starter for Jose Mourinho’s side since he joined in 2016, the 22-year-old will be hungry to prove himself. Sky Sports reporter Mark Bridge has also speculated that Martial has been on Spurs radar since his time at Monaco, where he made his name winning the Golden Boy award in 2015. The biggest hurdle to Spurs signing Martial however, will be Mourinho. It is up for debate as to whether he will allow the Frenchman to go to a direct Premier League rival, but until that is confirmed he’s remaining on Spurs wish list.

Christian Pulisic

One of the few standout American players in European football, Pulisic has been making a name for himself as a versatile player at Borussia Dortmund for the past couple of seasons, able to play both as an attacking midfielder and winger. Spurs current interest comes after an attempt to poach Ryan Sessegnon was foiled by Fulham’s promotion to the Premier League, and their focus had to shift. The Independent is reporting that Pulisic is now in Spurs sights and with an opportunity to tap the burgeoning American market chairman Daniel Levy is also a fan, making the move all the more likely.

It’s the unfortunate truth of the transfer window, that with new blood coming in, others move on, and 2018 is looking to be no different.

Toby Alderweireld

Alderweireld has been at Spurs since 2015 but following a refusal to renew his contract before its expiry next summer, his future at the club is uncertain. With considerable interest put forward by Manchester United, with Jose Mourinho looking to restructure the squads defence and Pochettino sanctioning the move, the Belgian’s departure is looking more and more likely.

Mousa Dembele

One of the more curious cases at the club this transfer window, Mousa Dembele is one of the more in demand players. Dembele is one of the current squads longest standing players, with a place on the team since 2012 where he has garnered a reputation as one of Europe’s most proficient midfielders but with him and the club’s management not yet coming to an agreement over his continuing contract, as well as his desire to focus on the World Cup, his future at the club is up for debate. Spurs have reportedly rejected a number of offers from AC Milan, who are hoping to bring him into Serie A this summer, but there’s no reason to suggest the Italian side won’t try again. Couple this with recent interest from fellow Italian side Inter Milan and Dembele is one to watch this summer.

Danny Rose

Another interesting case, Danny Rose’s future has been the source of much speculation for months now. A focus of Manchester United’s transfer hopes earlier in the year, his opportunities then were cut short by injury, but the northwest team have also expressed an interest this window as well, as have Manchester City. Mancunian Interest is arguably less fervent this time around, with United favouring Juventus’ Alex Sandro and City looking to reinvest in Benjamin Mendy and Fabian Delph, but Everton have entered the fray in recent days, with the Toffees looking to revitalise their team over the summer. With so much interest, Rose is another one to watch this transfer window.
