Jack Clarke joins Spurs

It was announced today that 18-year-old Leeds winger Jack Clarke has agreed a contract with Spurs until 2023 for an undisclosed fee, with the youngster returning to the Championship side on loan for the 2019/20 season.

York-born Clarke rose through the ranks at Leeds United and burst onto the scene last season under Marcelo Bielsa, clocking up 25 appearances and scoring two goals as Leeds progressed to the Championship Play-Offs.

When faced with Derby in the league, Clarke announced himself as one to watch, turning heads as he tormented the opposition. His strong performances during the season saw him later named Leeds United Young Player of the Year.

Clarke expresses his delight at Spurs move

Speaking today after his Spurs contract was confirmed, Clarke said:

“I’m delighted to sign for such a top club. It’s still bizarre, I’m still getting my head around it at the moment, but it was an opportunity that I couldn’t turn down.

“It’s one of the biggest clubs in England if not the world. Watching them in the Champions League this season, how well they did.

“The training ground, the facilities, the bunch of players that are here, just top, top players. I’m looking forward to getting to play with them and training with them every single day – hopefully I can take a few bits on board from them and progress myself.”

Tipped for greatness

A winger with good ball control, close-dribbling skills and a decent end product, Jack Clarke looks to be a valuable addition to the Spurs team.

It’s difficult to say at this stage where he will fit in as we don’t know what the Spurs squad will look like at the start of 2020/21, but the starlet is undoubtedly an exciting prospect who promises great things. Manager Pochettino has a reputation for getting the best out of young players, and under his expert guidance we hope to see a Spurs legend in the making!
