Spurs New Stadium: April Update

The end of the 2017/18 Premier League campaign is beginning to draw to a close and what a fantastic season it has been for the Lilywhites so far. Spurs took some time adapting to life at Wembley Stadium at the start of the season but they have thrived there ever since. In fact, Spurs have only lost one Premier League game at the national stadium all season.

We have seen the new Spurs stadium shoot up over the last few months thanks to the tireless efforts of the construction and design teams who are determined to have it opened by August. Time is ticking, and Tottenham Hotspur only have four more league games to play in their temporary home of Wembley.

Tottenham Hotspur have published their yearly reports this week and the numbers reflect the efforts of the 2,100 workers who are racing against the clock to finish the stunning new structure. Cumulative spend on Tottenham Hotspur’s new home rose from £115.3m to £315.1m in the accounts. It is expected that the £850m New Stadium will be completed on time, however, reports have suggested that Spurs plan to ask if their first couple of fixtures could be arranged as away matches, to ensure its full completion. Daniel Levy has commented on the New Stadium’s progress, stating it is going to be a tough couple of months ahead:

“Extraordinary levels of financial and human resource have seen significant progress on capital projects, with schemes underway at both the New Stadium site and our training centre. We are in a historic period for the club and there is a growing sense of excitement. There will, however, be many challenges in the coming months as we near the latter stages of the construction of the new stadium and its opening”.

The roof lift is both a significant and incredibly tricky process that has been underway for a few weeks now. The crew are expected to finish this in the coming weeks, the cable net component has been lifted and placed into position. The concourses are being tiled and prepared for the fans; the team have started installing the navy blue seats. The LED screens have been installed. Additionally, groundworks have been completed for the new ticket office. The construction of the museum and the retail store are in full swing. The club are restoring Percy House and will act as the new home of the hugely important Tottenham Hotspur Foundation.

It is rather extraordinary how efficient the construction team has been erecting this magnificent stadium. The Club can only be thrilled with its progression. The countdown to the new season is generating excitement among the fans, who relish a return to N17.
