Leicester City vs Tottenham Hotspur Preview

Premier League action is back this Saturday as Spurs take on an inform Foxes side at the King Power Stadium.

Last time out in the Premier League, Spurs put four first half goals past a Crystal Palace side who had made a promising start to the season until they faced Spurs at the New Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It was a comprehensive performance from Mauricio Pochettino side which saw Son Heung Min bag two goals and Serge Aurier notched up two assists. Spurs will be eager to capitalise on such a big win after what has been quite a frustrating start to the season for the Lillywhites.

Spurs’ most recent game saw them squander a two goal lead for the second time in a month having drawn 2-2 away from home in the Champions League against Olympiacos. Goals from Daniel Podence and Mathieu Valbuena meant Spurs saw a repeat of the Arsenal match having conceded just before half time and then once again in the second half. It’s something Spurs need to urgently address going into this game and the rest of the season. If they want to mount a serious title challenge then they can’t be as complacent as they’ve previously been.

Leicester City, under Brendan Rodgers’ guidance look a real threat this season and are the number one contender to break in the top 6 with Wolves and Everton continuing to falter. Making the permanent transfer of former on-loan star Youri Tielemans permanent this summer was a statement of intent from a team who have been hit with a terrible amount of grief in the past few years. The former Premier League champions will fancy their chances at home against an inconsistent Spurs side. Jamie Vardy has continued his rich vein of goal scoring form for The Foxes and the record departure of Harry Maguire doesn’t appear to have affected the team with Soyuncu slotting into the vacant centre back position. James Maddison has also been a revelation since joining Leicester from Norwich City. The former Coventry City man is being watched by a host of top European clubs. Leicester City vs Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday 21st September is a 12:30pm kick off and has been selected for TV coverage.

Team News

Serge Aurier and Danny Rose didn’t travel to Greece for the Olympiacos game so it’s almost certain that they will start the game against The Foxes. We also expect Son Heung-min to come back into the starting eleven. Juan Foyth is still out with an injury and Ryan Sessegnon is still struggling with a hamstring injury so he’ll also miss out. The same goes for Giovani Lo Celso who’s recovering from a hamstring injury.

Matty James is out for Leicester City but he’s their only long-standing absentee. Wes Morgan is back in contention for Leicester but it’s unlikely he will displace Soyuncu or Evans.

Last Time They Met

The last time Spurs played Leicester City they ran out 3-1 winners with goals from Davinson Sanchez, Son Heung-min and Christian Eriksen. Spurs’ record against The Foxes stands at 56 wins, 21 draws and 35 losses.

Managers Thoughts

“They are a very good team. After winning the Premier League, they have rebuilt the team. Today’s it’s a different squad, new mentality, new manager and a great manager like Brendan. That is why it’s going to be tough.”

“At the moment it’s so early to talk about which teams are going to be there. But of course, the Leicester squad is so good with a great manager, for sure they will be in a good position at the end of the season. But at the moment it’s so early to talk about being a contender for top four or top six.”

“We need to recover and take the best decisions. There will be no excuses. That is why we have a big squad – players who feel fresh, some will repeat, some will struggle to recover, and they will rest. What’s important is that this is not an excuse. We are going to arrive in good condition on Saturday and we’ll be ready to fight against Leicester.”

How We See It

Leicester City are a top side and Spurs will have their work cut out so we’ll be hopeful of a win but expectant of a draw. We’re going to say 1-1.
