Everton v Spurs Premier League Preview - Goodison Park

Everton v Spurs Premier League Preview

Spurs travel to Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon in the final Premier League match before Christmas. Both teams are in different form as Spurs are just six points off the leaders in third whereas Everton have gone down to eight position in the Premier League.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team come into the game full of confidence having dispatched Arsenal midweek in the Carabao Cup in what was only their second win at the Emirates Stadium. That victory means they’ve lost one of their last twelve in all competitions.

A reason for that amazing run has been the away form of Spurs. No side in the Premier League has more points away from this season and they have won eight of their ten encounters on the road.

On the other hand, a bad run of form has seen Everton go behind Wolves in eighth in the table but a win against Spurs could see them rise back to sixth. Marco Silva’s team have yet to win in December and have picked up just two points from their past four games at a crucial point in the season. Their derby defeat to Liverpool has set them on a path of bad results and Silva will be desperate for his team to stop the bad run of form.

Everton have not had successive defeats in the Premier League since September and their home form is considerably better than their away form.

Everton v Spurs Team News

After being rested midweek against Arsenal, Harry Kane will return up front for Spurs at Goodison Park. Elsewhere Davinson Sanchez could return in central defence for Spurs as he has now recovered from a hamstring injury. That means that Ben Davies could move back to left back having played in the centre of defence on the last couple of occasions for Spurs.

The Toffees are expected to be without former Aston Villa man Idrissa Gueye but will give him a fitness test before the match to see if he is able to play despite a groin strain. Andre Gomes and top scorer Richarlison were both absent from training earlier in the week but are both expected to recover in time for the match.

James McCarthy is still out with his long-term injury but is due to be back in an Everton shirt soon.
