Man City 4-1 Spurs- Premier League – 16.12.17

Match Review: Manchester City vs Spurs

Manchester City maintained their unbeaten status in the Premier League with a comfortable 4-1 win over Tottenham. This increases their Premier League streak to 16 wins. City midfielder Gundogan opened the scoring with a header from a Leroy Sane set piece within the first 15 minutes. This was only Man City’s second shot of the game, Gundogan slipped by his Spurs defenders with ease as the Lilywhites back-four stood bemused.

Manchester City vs Spurs: Formations

Man City took full ownership of the match from then on. Lloris must be noted for keeping the deficit at one during the first half, making two very respectable saves from an on-form Gundogan. Tottenham tried to drum up some intensity during the second half, but this inevitably left them subject to dangerous City counter-attacks.

De Bruyne doubled City’s lead on the 70-minute mark with a powerful shot that simply had Lloris beaten. The superb passing spells of Manchester City proved too much for Tottenham in the last ten minutes of the game, and Rahim Sterling was there to tap it in at the back post to make it 3-0. He then capitalised on Eric Dier’s questionable behaviour at the back, who lost possession to Sterling, only to calmly tap it between the legs of the Spurs skipper. Eriksen managed to bag a consolation goal in the 93rd minute to conclude the scoring at 4-1 in City’s favour. Kevin De Bruyne was awarded the man of the match, and as on so many occasions for City this year, he was on electric form.

Poch’s Comments

“We need to learn from this situation. Today was a very good example to see a team that believes, that has a lot of quality and strength, and is in very good form. They deserved the victory completely. We were poor but, not only that, the way that we conceded the first goal was a massive mistake for us. We need to improve”

Man of the Match

Kevin de Bruyne takes home the Man of the Match award. The Belgian midfielder has simply been astonishing for Manchester City this year and today was no different. He is a superstar when he is in his best mood, simply unstoppable. His goal was spectacular as well as his work in defending the midfield area.
