Japhet Tanganga in potential swap deal?

Latest Tottenham Hotspur Transfer News

A report from Italian news outlet CalcioMercato has claimed that Japhet Tanganga is the subject of a potential swap plus cash deal for Juventus’ Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic. The fee involved in this potential transfer is rumoured to be €50m (£43.8m).

Tanganga is a product of Tottenham’s academy. After impressing at every youth level, he made his senior debut in a league cup match against Colchester United. His full Premier League debut came in January 2020 where he impressed, despite Spurs losing the game 1-0 to Liverpool.

The defender has made 46 appearances in all competitions for Spurs, with 3 of these coming this season (2022/23).

In the case of Dusan Vlahovic, the forward began his career in his native Serbia, joining Partizan Belgrade in 2014. He went on to make his senior debut in February 2016 against OFK Beograd, becoming the youngest debutant in the Serbian top flight history aged just 16.

Vlahovic scored his first goal for Partizan against Radnik Surdulica in a 3-2 victory in April of the same year, also making him the club’s youngest ever goal scorer.

Overall, he made 27 appearances in all competitions for the Serbian giants, scoring 3 goals and providing an assist before signing for Italian side Fiorentina in 2017 for a reported fee of just €3.2m (£2.8m).

His senior debut for I Viola came in a 2-1 Serie A (Italian Top Flight) defeat against AC Milan in September 2018. He scored his first two goals for the club in a 3-1 victory against Monza in the Coppa Italia in August 2019.

Over the course of the 2019/20 season, he made 35 appearances in all competitions, scoring 9 goals and providing 2 assists for his teammates with Fiorentina finishing in 10th place on 49 points.

Vlahovic was in fantastic form the following season. By the conclusion of the 2020/21 season he had made 40 appearances in all competitions where he scored an extraordinary 21 goals with 2 assists to boot. It was a 13th place finish in the Serie A that season.

Juventus signed him for a reported initial fee of €81.6m (£71.5m) in January 2022. The Serbian striker’s debut was a promising one, scoring his first goal for the club in a 2-0 victory against Hellas Verona. In the second half of the 2021/22 season, he made 21 appearances, scoring 9 goals with Juventus finishing in 4th place in Serie A.

So far this season (2022/23), he has made 15 appearances in all competitions with 7 goals to his name. Overall, Vlahovic has made 36 appearances for the Old Lady, with an impressive 16 goals to his name.

Dusan would be a good signing for Spurs with the forward prolific for multiple clubs, and this would certainly add more goals to the team and strengthen their bid for European football.
