Heung Min Son wins award

Heung-Min Son wins Best Footballer in Asia

Heung-Min Son has been one of the stand-out superstars for Spurs this season and has been instrumental in the team’s success in the Premier League. Son has netted 18 goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions this season, and his efforts have been rewarded with an international accolade.

The ‘best footballer in Asia’ award is voted on by various journalists based in Asia and Europe and is presented in China, by the sports editorial Titan Sports. The award, in fact, recognises the best Asian footballer within a calendar year. Son also won this coveted award in 2014 and 2015.

Heung-Min Son not only became the first Asian player to ever receive the EA Sports Player of the Month award at the end of 2016, but he doubled up on this accolade in April 2017 – after netting five goals in four games for the Lilywhites.

The Premier League has not been the only playground that the Son has shined bright up on. Sonny bagged his first hat-trick for the club last year in March, as part of a thrilling 6-0 FA Cup victory over Millwall. In the Champions League, Son scored a goal in both legs against Borussia Dortmund – grabbing the winner in the second leg to help Spurs top the table undefeated.

Congratulations Sonny!

2017 saw Heung-Min Son become the highest scoring Asian footballer since this conception of the Premier League. He scored his 20th goal to overtake Korean legend Park Ji-Sung and is now on a total of 30 goals.
Heung-Min Son commented that,

“Winning an award is always a fantastic feeling – when I saw the trophy again it made me smile again… I try my best in every single training session, every week and every single game… I’m a really lucky guy because I have such good team-mates”

There is no denying that Son has been a fantastic addition to the Spurs attacking ranks. As well as his faultless work ethos and sterling performances, Son has been warmly accepted by the fans for his positive and jovial character.

Heung-Min Son will represent South Korea at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where he will lead his country out against Germany, Mexico, and Sweden in Group F.
