Harry Kane playing for England - Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Kane: England Player of the Year 2017

It was announced this week that Harry Kane has been awarded the coveted title of England Men’s Player of the Year. He has arguably had the year of his life, not just for Tottenham Hotspur but for England as well.

The Premier League has been a playground for the young Englishman, who has bagged 20+ goals for the last three consecutive seasons. In the current 2017-18 campaign, Harry sits nicely at the top of the Premier League goal-scorers table, with 21 goals from 23 appearances. Similarly, Kane has found the net 7 times in 6 games for England over the course of 2017. As a result of his ferocious domestic goal-scoring record, and his consistent form for the 3 lions, Kane received 75% of the votes from England Supporters Club (ESC) members.

What did Kane have to say about adding this coveted accolade to his already impressive trophy cabinet?

“To be voted as England’s best player of 2017 from such a talented squad is a real honour after what was a memorable year for me personally,”

Having succeeded his national teammate Adam Lallana, who won the award in 2016, Kane looks set to skipper England ahead of the eagerly anticipated 2018 FIFA World Cup – arranged to be held later this year in Russia.

Kane: A Legend in the Making

A good indication of when a player has reached legend status, or of a player who is well on their way to reaching legend status, is when previous icons single out that player. This is exactly what former Italian midfielder Andrea Pirlo has done in his recent comment on the upcoming World Cup. When asked who he believed would win the Golden Boot of the tournament, Pirlo stated that he thought Ronaldo, Messi, or Kane may walk away with the trophy! Not a bad pair of names to be mentioned aside.

If his 2017 form is anything to go on,  Tottenham’s Harry Kane will lead our 3 lions out with full confidence and the whole country rooting for him.
