Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane has reached a degree of maturity with his football in the last couple of seasons and is currently in the form of his life. Ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League second-leg clash with Juventus, a couple of Kane’s Italian opponents have both singled him out as a threat, and as an outstanding striker who is destined for greatness.
Gianluigi Buffon, a World Cup winner and legend in his own right, has spoken of the similarities between Harry Kane and the retired Serie A legend Gabriel Batistuta. Buffon claimed that Batistuta, who scored 168 goals in 269 appearances for Fiorentina, is an appropriate comparison for Harry Kane due to their shared attributes of ‘physical strength, athleticism, and finishing’. Buffon stated that,
“Kane has been in outstanding form. There is no doubt at the moment he is among the top two or three best strikers in the world”.
Revered Juventus centre-back Giorgio Chiellini made similar comments during an interview with the Italian Press. Between comments regarding the Italian’s future and the likelihood of a Juventus advancement through to the next stage of the Champions League, Chiellini commented,
“Harry Kane? We’re talking about a player who is among the best three or four strikers in the world.”
In terms of league goals, Harry Kane is, in fact, the joint highest scorer in Europe at the moment. PSG’s Edison Cavani, Lionel Messi, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane have all scored 24 goals (as of 07.03.18). Kane has won the Premier League golden boot two years in a row now and is likely to go on and make it a hat-trick.

A tough but promising road ahead
Harry Kane will no doubt have to bring his A game against Juventus, as the Old Lady are no easy opponents to break down. The Italians are skilled at controlling the tempo of the game. However, Spurs hold a marginal advantage that necessitates Juventus to leave their comfort zone if unable to break the Spurs defences down. The difference between Juventus controlling the tempo and them being forced to attack might just provide Spurs, and more specifically Kane, with golden opportunities to punish Juventus on the break.
As well as the Champions League, Tottenham Hotspur are in contention to fight for the FA Cup title and currently sit 4th in the Premier League table. The end to the season, therefore, will require maximum effort with minimal rest. Spurs have depth in their squad and a seemingly durable air of confidence that will serve them in their hopes for glory by the season’s end.
