Brighton vs Tottenham Hotspur Match Preview

It’s been a bitterly disappointing week for Tottenham Hotspur after they were torn apart by Bayern Munich as they sunk seven past them in the week. After Spurs had taken the lead in the game, it’ll hurt them even more. For successive weekends, Spurs find themselves needing a response from a loss causing unrest among the Lillywhite faithful.

It’s been a bad few weeks for Spurs, suffering defeats to Leicester City and Colchester United in the Carabao Cup, twinned with letting a two-goal lead slip against Olympiacos, fans are nervous that the decline could continue. Spurs will be itching to make things right and put out a performance that the travelling Spurs faithful will feel proud of.

The early kick-off usually throws up a few surprises in what should be a routine win for Tottenham so Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping for no nasty surprises against Brighton. A win could see Spurs move up to 3rd in the table before the 15:00 kickoffs so all isn’t as bad as it seems in the league. Liverpool and Manchester City lead the chase and that doesn’t look like it’s changing anytime soon.

Brighton have not won in six games in the top flight, having won on the opening day away at bottom of the table Watford. They’ve struggled for form under new manager Graham Potter and have two points from their last five games. They now play a possession based game and have struggled for goals. Brighton were known last season for playing direct park-the-bus football so whilst the football may be better this season, their results aren’t reflecting that just yet. New signing Neal Maupay has failed to hit the goal scoring form that he had at Brentford last season in the Championship.

Brighton vs Tottenham Hotspur is the 12:30pm kick off and is scheduled for television broadcast.

Team News

Pochettino could banish the diamond formation that he has opted for this season In favour for his trusty 4-2-3-1 shape which did so well last season. Erkisen, Lamela and Lucas didn’t start against Bayern Munich so there’s a good possibility that they could make the eleven against Brighton on Saturday.

Serge Aurier is suspended after his first half sending off against Southampton so Kyle Walker-Peters should reclaim his place back in the team. Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso are still side lined through injury.

Graham Potter’s Brighton have a few injury worries heading into the clash with Spurs. Leandro Trossard, Joze Izquierdo and Davy Propper are out of the match so Potter’s selection should be limited in Spurs’ favour. Pascal Gross has created nearly as many chances as anyone in the league this season in a new more advanced role. Neal Maupay looks set to start too.

Last Time They Met

Spurs needed a late goal from Christian Eriksen to get all three points in April of this year. It was potentially the most negative performance from a Premier League team in a period where Brighton were crawling across the line in their bid to avoid the drop. It was the seventh consecutive game that Brighton had failed to score in – which tells the whole story.

Son Heung Min’s Thoughts

“I was hurt just like the fans. I was thinking ‘please, is this just a bad dream?’ but what can we do now? It was so disappointing, sad, everything negative, but we have to carry on.”

We’ll do just that when we return to Premier League action in Saturday’s early kick-off (12.30pm) at Brighton.

“Football can change so quickly,” added Sonny. “We have a game every three days and I believe we can turn it around. We’re together and we carry on, work harder. The best way is to go to Brighton and fight for every ball, fight in every situation, try to get a good result and bring home the three points.”

How We See It

Spurs have to get back to winnings ways and with Brighton struggling for form, this is the perfect opportunity to get three points. We’re going 1-0 Spurs.
