Brennan Johnson set to sign for Spurs
Johnson is set to move to North London on deadline day.
The 2023 Summer transfer window is coming to a close today (Friday, 1st September), and clubs across the country will be making last-minute moves to improve their teams as much as possible to try and achieve their targets for the 2023/24 season.
Spurs are no different, and it looks like Brennan Johnson is set to sign from Nottingham Forest for a reported £47.5 million, and he will sign a rumoured 5-year deal with the Lilywhites, and the forward would become their latest signing of the window.
THFC have so far signed James Maddison (Leicester City, £40m), Pedro Porro (Sporting CP, £40m), Micky Van de Ven (VFL Wolfsburg, £34.5m), Dejan Kulusevski (Juventus, £25m), Guglielmo Vicario (Empoli, £17.2m), Alejo Veliz (Rosario Central, £13m), Ashley Phillips (Blackburn Rovers, £2m) & Manor Solomon (Shakhtar Donetsk, Free Transfer).
Brennan Johnson began his career with Dunkirk before joining Nottingham Forest’s Academy in 2009 at just 8. In the 2017/18 season, Johnson played twice in the FA Youth Cup, scoring two goals.
The Wales forward made his senior bow on 3rd August 2019, aged 18, as an 88th-minute substitute in Nottingham Forest’s 2-1 defeat against West Bromwich Albion on the opening day of the 2019/20 Championship season.
For the duration of the 2020/21 season, Brennan Johnson joined League One side Lincoln City, where he began establishing himself as a player on the rise. He played 40 of the Imps’ 46 league matches and scored an outstanding ten goals while contributing an excellent 12 assists during his season in the third tier.
Following his breakout campaign on loan, Johnson began playing regular first-team football with Nottingham Forest throughout the 2021/22 Championship season. He played 46 times in the regular season before playing in all three promotion play-offs, scoring 18 goals whilst also providing nine assists.
Forest returned to the Premier League for the first time in more than 20 years after beating Huddersfield Town 1 – 0 in the Championship Play-Off Final at Wembley. It was not all plain sailing as Nottingham Forest was bottom of the table before current Head Coach Steve Cooper took over on 21st December 2021, guiding them to promotion.
Nottingham Forest secured Premier League survival in the first season back in the top flight. Cooper’s Reds secured a 16th-place finish after accumulating 39 points, which saw them end last term 5 points clear of the bottom three.
Johnson played all 38 of Forest’s Premier League games over the course of the 2022/23 campaign, scoring eight goals whilst getting a total of 3 assists to boot. The Wales international was the club’s second-highest league scorer last term, with 2022 Summer signing Taiwo Awoniyi the only Reds player to score more with 10.
With this deal looking sure to go through, this is looking like an excellent signing for Spurs – Brennan Johnson has the attributes to add further quality to the Tottenham forward line whilst also having the potential to become an even better player during his time with the Lilywhites.
