Bayern Munich’s latest bid for Harry Kane was rejected by Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs fans are no closer to knowing whether the forward will stay with Tottenham or move to Munich
Harry Kane’s future at Spurs has been the subject of intense speculation in the summer transfer window, with the club’s all-time leading goal scorer being linked with a move to German giants Bayern Munich. Following the departure of Robert Lewandowski to FC Barcelona in May 2022, the Bavarians have been on the lookout for a new talisman upfront, and they see Kane as the ideal player to lead their forward line.
Bayern’s opening offer was reported to have been in the region of £70 million plus add-ons, which was rejected, as was an improved bid. Sky Sports have since revealed that the German Champions made a third bid of €100 million (£86 million), which was rejected on Monday. According to the Evening Standard, the clubs are around €25 million (£21.5 million) apart in valuation.
With just 12 months remaining on his contract with Tottenham, the Lilywhites will want to sort his future at the club as soon as possible. And whilst Kane continues to be linked with a move away, there is a chance that Kane goes on to stay in North London with a new contract.
The forward featured in Spurs most recently in a home friendly against Ukraine’s Shakhtar Donetsk on Sunday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It was an emphatic 5 – 1 victory for the home side, and Kane was as ruthless as ever in front of goal, scoring on four goals in the match (38’, 50’, 55’, 79’). He scored one from the spot in the first half before scoring a hat-trick in the second half.
THFC Head Coach Ange Postecoglou has had his say on Harry Kane’s future (via the Evening Standard): “I’ve said to (the club) that if the status quo changes, then inform me. I don’t need to know about the comings and goings in between. I just want to deal with what’s in front of me because I’ve got to still, irrespective of the outcome of that, I’m building a team here.
“I can’t wait (around) for a decision either way to get going. We don’t have the time or the luxury to do that. I’m working with what’s in front of me. You saw today that Harry certainly is invested in what we’re doing, and we’ll keep on doing that unless something changes.”
Harry Kane scored an incredible 30 goals in the Premier League alone last season (2022/23), with only Manchester City’s Erling Haaland scoring more with 36. In 9 seasons, Kane has scored 20 or more Premier League goals in six of them (2014/15, 2015/16, 2016/17, 2017/18, 2020/21 & 2022/23).
Speculation on Kane’s future looks like it will continue for some time, with Bayern said to be looking to continue negotiations with Tottenham. It is looking more likely that Kane will stay, but it remains to be seen how this situation will develop over the coming days.
