Atalanta star Ruslan Malinovskyi linked with Tottenham Hotspur Transfer

Rumour Summary

Several news outlets, including football.london, have tipped Ukranian forward Ruslan Malinovskyi to make the move to Spurs from Italian club Atalanta. According to Italian news outlet Il Giorno (via FourFourTwo), Tottenham are set to make a move in the January 2023 transfer window with the potential fee reported to be £13m.

Malinovskyi has played in 14 league matches in Serie A Italian Top Tier League  this season, and has scored a goal and provided 2 assists for his teammates.

In an article from the Evening Standard from August 2022, Atalanta Head Coach Gian Piero Gasperini had the following to say about the player:

“(Malinovskyi) has been extraordinary for us, then over the years there has always been Ilicic, we never thought of finding player with those characteristics.

“He has been great at adapting, he has done some very good things.”

Ruslan Malinovskyi’s career to date

Ruslan Malinovskyi began his career at Ukranian heavyweights Shakhtar Donetsk, but he never made a senior appearance for the club. He did play for one of Shakhtar’s youth teams, playing 39 times for Shakhtar-3 between 2010 and 2012 where he scored 10 goals.

He was then sent out on a series on loan spells.

His first loan spell was with fellow Ukranian club Sevastopol in the 2012/13 season. He made 16 appearances in all competitions that season, scoring a goal.

Malinovskyi’s second loan spell was with Zorya in 2014/15 with whom he made 31 appearances in all competitions, scoring 3 goals and providing 6 assists for his teammates.

He was called up to the Ukraine national team in 2015, and to date has made 51 appearances in all competitions, scoring 7 goals to date.

Ruslan then made a loan move to Belgian side KRC Genk in January 2016, before making his stay at the club permanent in July 2017 for £1.7m (€2m). In his time at the club, he made 135 appearances in all competitions scoring 30 goals, also providing 32 assists.

The forward went on to sign for Serie A (Italian top flight) club Atalanta in July 2019 for a reported fee of £11.7m (€13.6m). Malinovskyi scored his first goal for the club a month later in a Champions League tie against Manchester City.

His first league goal for the club came a couple of months later when he was on the scoresheet in a 3-2 victory against Hellas Verona in December 2019.

In his first season at the club (2019/20), he made 44 appearances across all competitions, scoring 9 goals and providing 7 assists for his teammates.

Malinovskyi has made 142 appearances in all competitions during his time at Atalanta, scoring 30 goals and he has got 28 assists to his name.

This would certainly be an exciting signing for Spurs fans should the Ukrainian decide to make the move to North London.
