Match Review: APOEL vs Spurs
Harry Kane scores a hat-trick giving Tottenham their second win from two games during this Champions League campaign.
Spurs looked slightly unsettled as the game in Cyprus got underway; it was the home side that looked the more focused of the two. Igor de Camargo hit the framework within 20th minutes; Carlao dropped his defender to challenge Lloris with a header totally unmarked.
Spurs then opened the scoring in 39 minutes after Ben Davies had drilled a flat pass through to Kane, who almost looked offside. After turning his defender, Kane calmly side-footed the ball beyond the charging APOEL keeper. The Cyprian outfit looked for an equaliser and almost came close as Aloneftis forced Lloris to athletically bat away a power shot to the near post. Kane’s second came in 61 minutes after Sissoko squared the ball to him on the edge of the area. The in-form Englishman had time to pinpoint the bottom left-hand corner to double Tottenham’s advantage.
Spurs saw the introduction of development-squad player Anthony Georgiou on his competitive debut for the club. Kane’s third goal came four minutes after he scored his brace. After distributing the ball wide to Trippier, Harry burst through the middle of the penalty box to find space amid the deflated APOEL defence. Trippier returned the ball to Kane, who claimed his hat-trick with ease after guiding a header beyond the reach of Waterman. Spurs took a while to get into their rhythm, but with Kane commanding the vanguard, Spurs comfortably clinched all three points.
