Antonio Nusa to Spurs?

Antonio Nusa

The 18-year-old Norwegian forward currently plays his football for Belgian side Club Brugge, and he has been linked with a move to Tottenham this January.

With less than two weeks to go until the 2024 January transfer window comes to a close, clubs across the UK and Europe will be working hard to get the signings they want to be completed ahead of the deadline on Wednesday, 31st January 2024.

This activity will likely include Tottenham. Spurs have already signed two players in this current transfer window at the time of writing: ex-Chelsea forward Timo Werner and Genoa’s Romanian central defender Radu Dragusin. Werner joined on a loan deal for the rest of the 2023/24 season, whereas Dragusin joined the North London club permanently, with the fee thought to be €25 million (£21.4 million).

Several other players have been linked, including Wolves’ Joao Gomes and Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise.

Now, a new transfer link has emerged involving Spurs over the course of the last day or so. The latest player linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is that of Club Brugge forward Antonio Nusa.

Nusa predominantly plays as a left winger, having made 23 appearances there in his career to date. The forward is versatile, and he has been deployed in a variety of other positions, which include left winger (10 Appearances), Centre Forward (6 Appearances), left midfield (1 Appearance) and a second striker (1 Appearance).

The 18-year-old Norwegian has played 26 games in all competitions this season, scoring 3 goals and getting 3 assists to boot. According to The Standard, the fee that Club Brugge want is in the region of £25 million, and further to this, it is thought that they would like to keep Nusa at the club for the rest of the 2023/24 season on a loan deal should the player complete the transfer.

Nusa’s career began in youth football, and he joined hometown club Langhus aged 10 in 2015. He was at the club for two years before signing for Norwegian heavyweights Stabaek in 2018. Then, after spending 3 years impressing in the club’s academy, the forward was promoted to the club’s first team in 2021.

In 2021, Antonio Nusa made 13 appearances in all competitions for Stabaek, scoring 3 goals in his 11 Eliteserien (Norway’s top flight). Unfortunately, he could not prevent the club from being relegated to the Norwegian Second Tier after having to settle for a 15th place finish (out of 16 teams), with 25 points from their 30 matches.

Following relegation, Belgium’s Club Brugge then came calling him, signing Nusa for a fee of around €3 million on 31st August 2021.

The Norwegian forward would go on to make 5 appearances for the first team, scoring 1 goal. He also made 7 appearances in the UEFA Youth League for Club Brugge’s Under 19s team, scoring 2 goals. Club Brugge Under 19s were knocked out by Danish Club FC Midtjylland, losing 3 – 2. Nusa did score both of his team’s goals in the game.

Antonio Nusa finally became a regular member of Club Brugge’s first team matches came in the 2022/23 campaign. Over the course of this season, he made 21 appearances in the Jupiler Pro League (Belgian Top Flight), scoring a goal and getting an assist to boot. Club Brugge finished 4th with 59 points.

Nusa also made 4 appearances in the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League. He scored a goal in a 4 – 0 win away from home against Portuguese heavyweights FC Porto on 13th September 2022. In doing so, the Norwegian forward became the youngest player to score on his Champions League debut.

With his 2 goals and 2 assists in his 14 league appearances in the current season (2023/24), his efforts and goal contributions have helped lead Club Brugge to 5th place, which is where they sit in the Belgian top flight as of the time of writing.
