AFC Bournemouth v Tottenham Hotspur Premier League Match Preview

Ange Postecoglou’s Lilywhites will try to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Spurs have got their season off to an unbeaten start as they look to put together a strong Premier League campaign to secure a return to European football come the end of the 2023/24 season. THFC will now take the trip to the South Coast to face Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth.

A win here would see Spurs potentially lift themselves into the top four, and this would strengthen their bid for European football. All three points could lift them above Liverpool, Brentford, Arsenal, Manchester City and current league leaders Brighton.

Tottenham currently find themselves in 6th place in the Premier League table with 4 points to their name, and they are just 2 points adrift of the summit. After drawing 2 – 2 away from home against Brentford on the opening day, Spurs went on to beat Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United 2 – 0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in what was Head Coach Ange Postecoglou’s first home game in charge.

It was an enthralling match in North London, and Spurs showed that they are still a very dangerous team even after losing their talismanic forward, Harry Kane. Mali international midfielder Pape Matar Sarr opened the scoring for the home side with a powerful close-range effort that gave André Onana no chance (49’). An own goal from Red Devils central defender Lisandro Martinez ensured that all three points would be going to the Lilywhites (83’).

Now for Bournemouth, the most recent encounter between Tottenham Hotspur and the Cherries came in the Premier League on Saturday, 15th April 2023, when Spurs were unfortunate to lose 3 – 2. Son Heung-Min (14’) and Arnaut Danjuma (88’) scored the goals for THFC.

This is, however, the Cherries’ only victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham’s most recent victory against Bournemouth was in their first meeting of the 2022/23 Premier League season on 29th October 2022, and by the same score line. Ryan Sessegnon (57’), Ben Davies (73’), and Uruguay midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur (90+2’) were the Spurs goal scorers that day. Spurs had been 2 – 0 down, Sessegnon, Davies and Bentancur’s stoppage time goal ensured the all-important victory for the team.

As for team news, Spurs will still be without Rodrigo Bentancur, Bryan Gil and Ryan Sessegnon. However, these are the only injury concerns for Ange Postecoglou. There is a strong chance that James Maddison will be available for this game after recovering from an ankle injury.

As for the Cherries, Lewis Cook, Dango Outtara, Alex Scott and Marcus Tavernier are all out, as is new signing Tyler Adams.

As of the time of writing, Tottenham Hotspur and Bournemouth have gone head-to-head competitively on 13 occasions. It is Spurs with a superior record of 8 victories compared to the Cherries’ 3. There have been two draws overall.

They first met in February 1957. Bournemouth did win that FA Cup 5th Round encounter, but their second-ever meeting on 25th October 2015 saw Spurs win emphatically, beating their South Coast counterparts 5 – 1 at the Vitality Stadium. Harry Kane (9’ pen, 56’, 63’), Érik Lamela (29’) and Moussa Dembélé (17’) were the goal scorers for THFC. Matt Ritchie got Bournemouth’s only goal (1’).

Both clubs are very capable of scoring goals, and they both play some attractive football. This should be an enthralling encounter with both teams looking to enhance their chances of achieving their respective targets for the season.

Following a Carabao Cup Second Round tie against Fulham on Tuesday night at Craven Cottage, Tottenham Hotspur will face Burnley away from home. Spurs’ next home game will be against a newly promoted Sheffield United side led by Paul Heckingbottom on Saturday, 16th September 2023.

This match is set to be enthralling, and there is no better way to enjoy all of the action than with an Eventmasters VIP Spurs Hospitality Package to enjoy the action at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in style.
